Ever feel like your child forgets instructions the second you finish saying them?

You’re not imagining it, and it’s not laziness or lack of effort.

In our latest episode of More Than Words, licensed clinical psychologist Dr. Erika Madison from mindwell_us explains how executive function and memory work together and why challenges with either can show up as forgetting.

If your child:
🧠 Struggles with multi-step directions
📚 “Knows it at home” but forgets it at school
🎒 Loses track of what they’re doing mid-task
⏱️ Gets overwhelmed as demands increase

This episode will help you understand why and what actually helps.

Dysgraphia is not just about handwriting.

For many kids, writing is hard because:
• The body struggles to keep up
• The brain struggles to organize ideas
• Or both at the same time

That is why support needs to look at the whole picture.

This month’s Ask The Experts focuses on dysgraphia from both angles.
🧠 Cognitive and language demands
✍️ Physical and motor demands

We’ve spent the month talking about executive function.

What it looks like. Where it shows up. And why it feels louder after a break.

If you want to keep exploring this topic, we have several podcast episodes that dig deeper into executive function, emotional regulation, routines, and support at home and school.

🎧 Listen when it works for you. Even one insight can change how you see what’s happening day to day.

When executive function is stretched, reminders usually don’t help much. Support does.

1️⃣ Clear first steps.
👁️ Visual cues.
📋 Predictable routines that reduce decision-making.

Here’s the reframe: when starting feels hard, the environment matters more than willpower.

Small changes to the setup can make a big difference in how manageable things feel.

Save this for a tough morning. 💛
