Did you know that occupational therapists use games as a super fun way to help kids develop important skills?
Games aren't just for fun — they're powerful tools that our OTs at CDOT like to use to work on everything from fine motor skills to emotional regulation.
Games help kids develop problem solving skills by encouraging them to think strategically and creatively. They also boost confidence as kids master new challenges and achieve goals within the game.
Activities like board games teach children to follow rules, take turns, and manage their emotions — while fine motor skills get a workout through activities like puzzles and building blocks, enhancing hand-eye coordination. Visual motor skills are improved through games that require visual tracking and spatial awareness, such as mazes or connect-the-dots.
So next time you see a child playing, remember they're not just having fun—they're building essential skills for life with the help of OTs who know how to make learning an adventure!
