From Nogales, a rural border town in southern Arizona to an Ivy League medical education at Brown, to orthopedic surgery residency at USF training under leaders in the field such as Dr. Frankle and Dr. Sanders. I certainly could not have achieved this without the unconditional love and support from God, family, friends, and mentors.

Special thank you to Dr. Ronald Navarro, Dr. Rafael Buerba and all of AALOS for believing in me and taking me under their wing. I can’t wait to pay it forward and become a Hand & Upper Extremity surgeon serving predominantly Hispanic community, caring for patients like those who raised me, and also a future leader in academic orthopaedics.

I was born and raised in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷. Growing up, I often felt frustrated that I didn’t speak English well. In college, many people told me that pursuing medicine in the mainland United States was nearly impossible. But with God’s blessing, I was given the opportunity to study at Mount Sinai in New York City.

In medical school, I heard again and again that matching into orthopedics was extremely difficult—especially without a research year and as a Latino.

Today, I matched into my #1 choice in orthopedics.

I couldn’t have done it without the support of my family, my girlfriend, AALOS, my mentors, and everyone who believed in me—even when I doubted myself.

So never let anyone tell you, as a Latino, that you can’t achieve something or that you have limits.
SĂ se puede! No te me quites!
