This week, our resident spotlight features Dr. Dominique Aleo, MD. She is a PGY-3 and is our current Chief of Outpatient and Scheduling. Known for her bubbly personality and delightful sense of humor, Dom excels while working with child and adolescent populations! Here's a little more about Dom!

---

Background: Grew up in UP Michigan. Studied Biological Sciences at Michigan Technological University and completed medical school at Michigan State University (Go Green!)

Specialty Interests: Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Why Psychiatry: "People are a narrative, each with their own story and experiences that make them who they are, and I feel Psychiatry honors that."

Favorite Thing About Our Program: "I really like that our program leaves freedom to build new opportunities and experiences. Our colleagues are all also good people and fun to be around and learn from; Wednesday Didactics are my favorite."

Life Outside of Medicine: Nature, food, being with friends and family, staying at home, music, painting, and porch-sittin' while listening to the radio.

Who are the Cats in Your Photo: Dart and Rorschach (like the inkblot test)

This week, we are delighted to spotlight Dr. Elizabeth Hollis, DO! Hollis is a PGY-2 and is our current co-chief of wellness. Known amongst her peers for her delightful fashion sense (often modeling articles of clothing she designs herself!), Hollis is a well-rounded and insightful resident. Let's learn a little more about Dr. Hollis below!

---
Hi! I’m Hollis. I’m excited to tell you a little about me!

I grew up in Kentuckiana on a farm along the Ohio River. My family is also from Elgin, Illinois, so I consider myself Tristatule.

I studied at Hanover College, where I majored in Chemistry and minored in Theatre, focusing on acting and costume design. I received multiple awards at Hanover for my work in costumes, including the "President Honors the Arts Award." I was also my sorority’s Historian and created a quilt for our 100th year as the Phi Chapter.

I earned my Master’s in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Louisville, where I was published in several journals. For medical school, I attended the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine and served as a Predoctoral Teaching Fellow in Osteopathic Manipulation.

I have a wide range of interests in psychiatry, ranging from state hospitals to hospice care, and I hope to integrate osteopathic manipulation into psychiatric practice. With my liberal arts background, psychiatry felt like the perfect fit: it’s the field where you truly get to practice the ART of medicine. And with osteopathy’s focus on mind, body, and spirit, it just made sense.

Now for the non-medicine side of me: I love cats (though owls are my favorite — they’re basically cats of the sky). I care for a group of community cats that I adore, and if I stay in the area, I plan to build a carriage house for them so even the most feral ones have shelter, food, and love. I also have a cat named Katniss, who’s currently living her best life with her “grandma and grandpa” since she’s a country cat at heart.

I consider myself an amateur fiber artist and am currently working on a quilt inspired by Chernobyl and atomic energy/destruction. Also... if given the chance, I will talk your ear off about my hyperfixation with Connor Prairie!

Thank you for letting me share a little about myself. I’m so excited to serve as Co-Wellness Chief this year! I’m always open to suggestions for wellness activities and really look forward to getting to know everyone as we move through this experience we call residency.

A little about Saad:

-Background: Originally from the lively city of Karachi, Pakistan, Saad graduated from Aga Khan University Medical College before joining our psychiatry program. While there, he participated in research aimed at improving the care of individuals exhibiting self-injurious behaviors.

-Why psychiatry: “I’m endlessly fascinated by human cognition and behavior,” he says — and it shows! His current interests include modern behavioral addictions like social media, gaming, and online shopping.

-What he loves most about residency: The autonomy and flexibility to shape his own schedule and explore diverse rotations.

-Interests outside of medicine: According to Saad, he is "a nerd through and through" — whether he's playing video games, competing in Magic: The Gathering, watching docuseries, or traveling to new places, he's always up for learning and adventure.

We are pleased to feature Dr. Gloria Crump, MD, as our resident spotlight this week. As a current PGY-1 resident and Lieutenant in the US Navy Medical Corps, Gloria brings a unique blend of experience and dedication to her work.
---
A little about Gloria:

Background: Gloria grew up in Park City, KY (best known for Mammoth Cave National Park and the nearby Corvette Plant and Museum in Bowling Green, KY). She pursued a career in healthcare software analysis in Nashville before being drawn to the field of medicine, where she felt she could make a more tangible/hands-on impact on people's lives. She went on to earn her MD from the University of Louisville and was a recipient of the US Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program.

Why Psychiatry: Gloria is particularly drawn to psychiatry due to its holistic approach, recognizing that treating mental health can have a profound impact on overall wellness. Her special interests include psychiatry and lifestyle medicine, with a focus on treating the individual, not just the diagnosis.

Why our program: Gloria is excited to be a part of the IUSM Vincennes Psychiatry Residency Program, which she thinks offers the ideal blend of small-town charm and access to cutting-edge research resources, particularly in the area of AI, which aligns with her prior experience in healthcare software research and development.

This week’s resident spotlight features Dr. Samuel Josephson, MD.

---
A little about Sam:

Sam is a PGY-1 interested in inpatient psychiatry and treating the severely mentally ill. His passion for psychiatry began while working as a psych tech while obtaining a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry at Utah Valley University. He later attended the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine before coming to our program.

Sam was most excited about the IUSM Vincennes Psychiatry Program due to its rural location. Despite being rural, he reports that he enjoys having the resources and opportunities that still come from being a part of an academic center.

Outside of medicine, Sam enjoys traveling and camping. He has been to 37 different states and recently lived in an RV alongside his wife, dog, and cat as they toured the southern half of the United States! If he had to pick one kind of travel destination, he would go somewhere in the mountains with a nearby body of water to enjoy.
