Day 288: Chemo day.. one of the worst things about receiving chemo is the waiting. The two chemos that he received today each only take five minutes to run through his port, however the visit took over 4 hours. Waiting to get his port accessed, waiting to draw blood, waiting for the results of the blood, waiting for them to release the chemo and then waiting to get deaccessed. The waiting is the worse part for Carson.

Carson wanted the red hair filter, but you have to have hair for it to work, so he put mine on his head. 😂

Day 282: Before I make today’s post, I would like to make it clear that before any big decision can be made Carson’s hematology and oncology team have to be on board.
With that being said Carson started at the Kidz Club today. It is not a daycare, but a pediatric medical day treatment center. Every classroom has a nurse in it and every child is carefully evaluated upon arrival. The classrooms are kept small and the child to adult ratio is low. They are trained to do all his meds and tube feedings, as needed. The nurses have experience with nj tubes and ports.
This is what was best for our family. I have to be able to work when I can, while having a reliable and trustworthy place for Carson to go.

Day 279: Carson’s spinal results are in and his spine is still clear of cancer. 🙌
Every spinal tap is nerve wrecking awaiting the results, but the chemo is working.
ETA: leukemia is a tricky Cancer that takes a long time to treat. This result means leukemia has not spread to his spine or testicles. He has never had leukemia in his spine or testicles. It’s been contained to his blood . If they can keep it contained his prognosis is a lot better. He will be in active chemo treatment until March 2027.

Day 278: Today has been a very emotional day for me. I’m not 100% sure why. I haven’t received any more bad news and nothing really has changed with Carson over the weekend. The only thing I can think of is that I’ve had some time by myself and I start thinking and overthinking.
I have shed so many tears today scared for his future. I try to stay positive and try to think about a positive prognosis but the reality is Cancer is scary. What if I have to put my baby through all this and he doesn’t win and Cancer does.? What if he relapses? What if he has negative side effects from chemo that last for the rest of his life that are hard for him to withstand? Life is just not fair and it’s taking its toll on me today I look at other families with children, happy and playing and get so jealous that my son doesn’t have that. I just wanna go back before diagnosis and everything be the same and not have to worry about so much.
Hug your babies extra tight and remember before February 3, 2025. My kid didn’t have cancer either. It could happen to anyone and it does more often than people think.
Carson is so much stronger than me and when I get down like this, I just have to think about him and look at that smile on his face. Cancer has attacked his body and he still continues to fight and not give up. I just have to hope and pray that Cancer doesn’t win and he does.

Day 276: Carson finally met counts!!!!!! We started interim maintenance 2 today. Intermin maintenance 1 was hard on him, so I’m a little worried. However, this is the last cycle before he goes into maintenance, so we are ready to get this rolling. He was sedated today for a spinal. They pulled spinal fluid to check for leukemia in his spine and infused his spine with chemo. We will get the results in about a week.

Day 275: Today a few parents at my work put together a trunk or treat\fall festival just for Carson. Even though he became overstimulated, he really enjoyed it. I appreciate all of them taking their time out to do this for him.
** I have parent permission to post all the children featured on his page.**

Day 273: Carson is trying to be just like Antonio, from the Nike Fit and chain to the smell good cologne. 😂
Went to the ENT today. His ears are what’s keeping his counts low. The infection is so bad his body is trying to fight it off, while recovering from chemo. Hopefully, some stronger antibiotics will help his body fight easier and bring his counts up.

Day 269: Carson did not make counts and his hemoglobin went down. However, he was excited for his count being 6.7 ( The whole 6, 7 craze.) Instead of chemo he had to get blood. We will try again next Friday to see if he makes counts to start the next cycle. We got a few pics with some of his favorite people, including his Panda doctor. (We love Dr. Erica.)
Last night Toshie Singleton Murrell gave Carson money to buy pizza for dinner. He wanted a hot dog last night, but the pizza was great for our unexpected stay. He was NPO (no food or drink), so I wasn’t expecting him to be able to eat and didn’t bring snacks for him. The pizza was a pleasant surprise.
Thank you Seth's Squad for the parent bag. A charger is the best bagged item ever, especially for unexpected long days.
