Our day started with our resident Narda making g homemade chicken and rolled out dumplings. While we let them cook, Lindsay from Visiting Angels came and did a craft with us. We then got to eat the delicious chicken and dumpling, followed by ice cream sandwiches.

With a heat wave sweeping through all of our Spring Oak communities this week, it's critical to remember seniors are more vulnerable to dehydration and heat-related illnesses — and they may not realize they’re overheated until it becomes dangerous.

Here are a few key tips from Denise Cantoni, our Senior Director of Health & Wellness for Spring Oak Senior Living, to help keep older adults safe:

✅ Stay Hydrated – Drink plenty of water regularly, even if you’re not thirsty. Caffeine and alcohol can worsen dehydration.
✅ Dress Smart – Light-colored, breathable clothing helps regulate body temperature.
✅ Keep Cool Indoors – Use fans or air conditioning, and close blinds during the hottest hours.
✅ Limit Outdoor Activity – Avoid being outside between 10 AM and 4 PM. If you need to go out, wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunscreen.
✅ Check-In Often – Seniors may not feel the heat the same way younger people do. Check-in on aging loved ones to make sure they’re okay.

We had a busy afternoon. First crafts with Michelle from Red Oak Hospice and Palliative care. After that, Joey from our Maintenance
Department showed our residents how to make butter with just heavy cream, sea salt and a mason jar. We ended our day with Root beer floats and Italian bread with freshly made butter.
