American Cancer Society recently released their annual report on cancer facts and trends. The report reveals a milestone 70% 5-year survival rate for all cancers combined for those diagnosed between 2015-2021 in the United States, due to cancer research and treatment advancements. The report acknowledges that with increasing survival rates, there must be more emphasis on survivorship challenges. We couldn't agree more.

The annual ACS Cancer Statistics report has been the gold standard of cancer surveillance research in the U.S. since 1951.

From Cure to Prevention: Colorectal Cancer Risk and Screening After Hodgkin Lymphoma

This Friday, February 13 @ 12pm ET

An expert in pediatric cancer survivorship, Dr. Henderson’s research focuses on understanding childhood, adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer outcomes, including characterizing the development of and screening for subsequent cancers in survivors. Her National Institutes of Health-funded research has impacted policy and practice to integrate cancer care with primary and sub-specialty care from diagnosis to long-term survivorship.

This World Cancer Day, we want to remind you: while the study of cancer survivorship is no longer a new phenomenon, there continues to be a gap between what researchers know and what survivors NEED to know. Many of us are finding that even our own doctors are unaware of the late effects of earlier treatments. Far too many Hodgkin Lymphoma survivors have discovered that they are at risk for serious health issues AFTER they began to have symptoms. Worse, they often have to convince their doctors that their symptoms are real.

According to the NIH, 60-90% of childhood cancer survivors develop one or more chronic health conditions. Hodgkins lymphoma is common in children, teens, and young adults, and their late effects are what we're here to educate you on.

Our website is designed to provide survivors with up-to-date information about cancer survivorship and late effects that are particular to the Hodgkin lymphoma community. We ARE a community. This is a place for guidance AND connection. You will hear from other survivors, read their stories, and know that you are not alone.

According to a 2019 study, a substantial number of Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma survivors struggle with long-term fatigue.

And we heard from many of you last week that you do too. If you deal with chronic fatigue, we hope you know you're not alone in it.

How do you cope with fatigue?

Read the study here: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1186/s12955-019-1186-x

Background Long-term lymphoma survivors often complain of persistent fatigue that remains unexplained. While largely reported in Hodgkin lymphoma (HL), long-term fatigue is poorly documented in non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHL).
