It’s certainly been an eventful few months!
Since December, I’ve racked up three med flights and six shiny new stents, but I felt good enough to head to a conference in Denver two weeks ago. Of course, never one to do things halfway, I managed to turn a casual E-bike ride into an adventure—resulting in a broken scapula, a couple of broken ribs, and a very colorful left side. The good news: head and heart are completely fine! Just some old shoulder and knee injuries waking up to say hello (all on the left side, keeping it consistent).
I’m incredibly grateful to my amazing son-in-law Justin Oslyn, who flew in from San Diego to rescue me and handled every detail to get me safely back to Boston. And to my son Sam Marlin, who met us at Logan at 6 a.m. and drove us straight to the ferry—a big ask for a young dad of two, and he did it without missing a beat.
For the record, there were no wheelies, no racing—just a very leisurely tour of the city while attending a conference on psychedelic-assisted therapies. The ER staff’s expressions were priceless when they asked about my substance use and I replied, “stone cold sober.” Go figure. I did go to school in Denver once upon a time, but let’s just say my lifestyle has mellowed quite a bit in the last 50 years, but my daughter sent well card addressed to Evel Knievel😎
