Here are photos of me and my daughter Zorah with the 5 groups of 4th Grade students we educated today at the 2025 event. It was a beautiful day for ESD!

We educated them about 5 of our Illinois bat species, about the insects they eat and about the importance of Bat Houses as an artificial habitat for Colonial Bats.

I found a freshly emerging Cicada (transformation from 5th Instar Nymph to Adult) while walking Charlie this morning.

They are truly one of God's most magnificent little creations!

Yes! This is totally true!
I have absolutely adored Cicadas for nearly half a century now. I always thought that was unusual.

But now I know I'm just one of tens of thousands of Cicada enthusiasts here in the state of Illinois. 🥰

A Cicada flew into my face today and then bounced off my cheek. She's the sweet little gal pictured here. I'm 100% convinced that she meant me no harm. She was safely relocated by me to a nearby tree after the photo op.

It was my own fault, ladies and gents. I was attempting to make a Facebook post about Cicadas at the time instead of paying attention to my surroundings.
