Meet Megan Brooks, the Life Enrichment Program Director at The Gardens of Virginia Beach. Megan was born and raised in Virginia Beach; she just relocated to the Hampton Roads area after spending 4 years in Colorado. Megan graduated from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation and became a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. Since graduating, she has been working in the healthcare field including skilled nursing, assisted living, and memory care. Megan’s favorite part of working in senior living is building positive relationships with residents/families and creating a lively environment within the community. When Megan is not working, you can find her enjoying time outdoors, relaxing with her cats, or spending quality time with her family. Megan is excited to be a part of the Five Star family and looks forward to implementing meaningful engagement opportunities for everyone in our community!

Meet Kowanda Tyus, the Executive Director at The Gardens of Virginia Beach. Kowanda is a Chesapeake native with 16 years of healthcare experience. A Licensed Nursing Home Administrator since 2019, Kowanda attained a bachelors degree in Health Services Management from Norfolk State University and an executive masters degree from Virginia Union University. When asked what brought her to Five Star Senior Living, The Gardens or Virginia Beach she replied, "Because of the quality care they provide and the positive reputation the company has in the community." She added that both her mother and grandmother were CNAs so she relates to and admires the warmth, dedication and longevity of our team here at The Gardens.
We are proud and grateful to have her leading our team!

Did you know that Dominoes is a brilliant exercise in concentration and memory. In addition to the benefits mentioned above, dominoes exercise memory and teach perceptiveness. It also promotes the development of cognitive functions - the game trains the brain, which has a huge impact on memory development.
