Get your toddler using phrases using these strategies!

💡 Plus one rule: just like it sounds! Add one word onto something your child already says. If they use single words well, model 2-words. If they use 2-words, add a third!
💡Routine phrases: model some phrases that can be used in lots of contexts! Simple phrases like “let’s go!” “I want some more” can be applied to lots of activities throughout the day.
💡Describing words: when modeling expanded phrases, support your toddler’s vocabulary skills by modeling different descriptors. Use words for color, size, shape, and more!

Trick or treat! 👻🎃🏠🍬
Communication can look for different for every child, and on a night like Halloween the pressure is ON to say those magic words.
If you’re passing out candy or walking around with your little this Halloween, be aware that it looks different for everyone!
Some might feel overwhelmed by the stress and sensory experiences of the night. Some might be trying out new communication methods. Some might just be so excited that they take 8 pieces of candy instead of 1!
However you’re trick-or-treating this year, have a wonderfully spooky time and honor all communication that comes your way 😌🎃

Happy AAC awareness month! 🎃👻 What is AAC anyway?

🎃AAC stands for Augmentative Alternative Communication
🎃 It can be high tech, like apps on a tablet, or low tech, like printed pictures or simple signs
🎃 Lots of people use AAC including those who may also use verbal language
🎃 AAC provides a means to access communication for those who experience barriers
🎃 Alternative forms of communication are valid and deserve to be honored!
