Who told you meditation has to look a certain way?

This 4-week experiential series explores different approaches: sitting, standing, walking, breath, sound, and mindfulness in daily life, so you can build a practice that actually fits your nervous system and your life. A practice you love.

No pressure to be still. No expectation to clear the mind. Just practical, grounded ways to experience meditation in an intimate group setting.

🪷 Exploring Meditation

“Love is the practice of freedom.” — bell hooks

That line has stayed with me because it names something we feel but don’t always articulate.

The women in this photo practice that kind of freedom every time they teach. Not by performing, pleasing, or pushing, but by creating rooms where people are trusted to listen to their own bodies, make their own choices, and show up honestly. That is not passive work. It requires confidence, discernment, and responsibility.

Each of these teachers leads differently. They bring different rhythms, different language, different strengths. What unites them is integrity — a commitment to teaching in a way that respects the intelligence of the student and the depth of the practice.

That is why this community feels the way it does. People are not being molded or managed. They are being supported. Over time, that changes how people move, how they breathe, and how they relate to themselves and the world around them.

I have deep appreciation for the women in this photo and the leadership they bring to this community, and I’m honored to lead beside them. If you practice here, you already know why.

Most of us come to yoga thinking it begins with the body.

With flexibility, strength, breath, or control.
With learning how to do the pose “correctly.”

But over time, it becomes clear that the real practice starts before all that.

It begins in the moment you notice how you respond when something feels hard. When balance is lost. When effort turns into strain. When your inner voice gets sharp or impatient.

Ahimsa, the first of the Yamas, isn’t a rule about being nice or gentle all the time.

It’s an invitation to pay attention to where harm quietly enters…through force, through judgment, through the way we speak to ourselves when things don’t go the way we hoped.

On the mat, that might look like choosing ease instead of pushing yourself, or laughing when you fall out of a balancing posture rather than deciding it defines you in some way.

Off the mat, it shows up in the pause before a reaction, or the choice to respond with discernment rather than subconscious habit.

This is why ahimsa comes first.
Because how we practice truth, restraint, discipline, and growth depends on the care and attention we bring to them.

Yoga isn’t something we do for an hour and leave behind.

It’s a way of learning how to meet ourselves, and our lives, with more awareness and less harm.

If your New Year’s resolutions already fell apart, it wasn’t because you didn’t want them badly enough, but because they stayed in your head and never made their way into your body.

Most of us try to change through intention alone, without ever slowing down enough to listen to what our inner world and higher self are actually asking for.

This guided hypnosis experience, led by Marcelina Hardy of Intuitive Clarity Hypnosis, works by settling the nervous system into a receptive state where insight can be felt, not forced, and clarity can emerge without mental negotiation.

This isn’t about trying harder or fixing yourself. It’s about creating the conditions where awareness becomes embodied and choice becomes possible.

What if yoga wasn’t something you did for an hour…but a way of returning to union?

Yes, this is where the “8” in Studio 8 comes in 🙂‍↕️

Over the coming weeks, we’ll explore Patañjali’s eight limbs not as concepts to memorize, but as practices that guide how we perceive, relate, and show up in our lives, on and off the mat.

The intention is simple: to deepen your relationship with your practice and how it shows up in everyday life.

Our Story

Hot yoga is a soothing practice that also centers the mind and balances the emotions. At Hot Yoga Studio, we have an intimate, zen-like space to practice, complete with bamboo and slate flooring and an additional window wall that allows Virginia Beach’s sunshine to bathe the room in light. When you practice here, you’ll be supported by a team of experienced, certified instructors and like-minded classmates. We welcome anyone and everyone to join us, and our favorite thing is meeting new people and seeing them develop in their practice. If hot yoga sounds like something you’d like to try, we’d love to see you here for a class sometime soon.
