A good latch = a smoother feeding journey… Let’s be real.

Signs of a good latch can include:
👶 Baby’s mouth is wide open
👶 Chin rests against the breast
👶 You hear swallowing, not clicking
👶 Feels like tugging, not pain

Tips for helping baby latch:
🌿 Try skin-to-skin before feeding
🌿 Tickle baby’s nose with your ni**le so they open wide
🌿 Bring baby to the breast (not breast to baby)
🌿 If it’s painful, gently break the seal with a finger and try again

The Golden Hour is the first 60 minutes after birth, a powerful window for connection and healing. When baby is placed skin-to-skin on your chest, something magical happens in this time!
✨ Your baby’s heartbeat, breathing, and temperature stabilize
✨ Oxytocin flows, helping you both feel calm and connected
✨ Breastfeeding instincts kick in naturally
✨ Bonding begins in the most gentle, instinctive way

Whenever possible, you can ask your care team to delay weighing, measuring, or bathing so you can soak in this uninterrupted hour. 💛

Postpartum recovery is about more than adjusting to life with a newborn, it’s also about protecting your own health and well-being.

❌ Don’t ignore rest. Your body has gone through major physical changes. Rest is a key part of healing, not a luxury.
❌ Don’t compare your journey. Every parent’s recovery looks different, and every baby develops on their own timeline. Comparison only adds unnecessary pressure.
❌ Don’t brush off your feelings. Mood changes can be normal, but if you’re feeling consistently low, anxious, or overwhelmed, it’s important to reach out for support.
❌ Don’t overextend with visitors. It’s okay to set boundaries and delay visits until you feel ready. Your comfort matters.
❌ Don’t try to “do it all” alone. Accepting help with meals, chores, or baby care allows you to focus on recovery and bonding with your baby.

Your postpartum experience deserves the same attention and care as your pregnancy. Be gentle with yourself, and remember, seeking support is a sign of strength.

If you’re considering hiring a doula for your birth, it’s important to interview a few potential doulas to get to know them personally. Maybe you’ve emailed a few doulas you like and set up meetings with some of them. Are you nervous about not knowing the right things to ask? During your interview, here are some questions that help you see if they’d be the right fit for you and your growing family.

🌼 Early labor can be full of unknowns, and the way you start your birth can set the tone for the rest of your experience.

Here’s the truth:
1️⃣ It can last hours (or longer) and still be perfectly normal.
2️⃣ You might feel more “yourself” than you expect.
3️⃣ You don’t have to rush, you can savor the comfort of home.

Your doula is here to help you recognize the signs, stay relaxed, and decide the right time to transition to your birth location.

“Do I really need to pick a pediatrician before I give birth?”

Short answer: YES. Long answer: Yesssss, please. 🙏🏽

✨ Choosing your pediatrician before baby arrives saves you the stress of a newborn exam being done by a total stranger you didn’t get to vet first (yes, your baby has their first doc visit in the hospital 👶🏽).

Here’s why picking early is clutch:

✔️ You can interview them ahead of time (yes, that’s a thing)
✔️ You’ll know who to call for those “is this normal?” moments.
✔️ They may visit baby at the hospital
✔️ You want someone who aligns with your values (feeding, vaccines, sleep style, etc.)

Ask about office hours, sick visit policies, how they handle after-hours questions, and their vibe with new parents. You deserve a provider who makes you feel supported, not dismissed.

📆 Tip: Start asking friends, your doula, and even your OB/midwife around 30–34 weeks.
💬 Already picked your pediatrician? Drop a ✋🏽 if you loved yours or a 💨 if you switched fast 💨

🤱🏽 Happy World Breastfeeding Week! 🌍💛
This week, we celebrate the power, beauty, and resilience of breastfeeding parents everywhere. As a doula, I honor the journey—whether it’s full of ease, full of learning, or a little bit of both.

Breastfeeding is not “one size fits all”—it’s a relationship, a choice, and sometimes, a challenge. I’m here to support you wherever you are on your path—with compassion, education, and no judgment.

Let’s continue to uplift informed feeding choices and create a world where every parent feels supported, seen, and empowered.

Why did I become a doula? 🤱🏽

Fun fact: I had my first child over 3,000 miles away from my family in Alaska.🏔️Being a military mom means you either create a village or face the journey alone & I know firsthand how heavy that can feel. I was in a brand new place, in a brand new chapter of life, figuring it all out without my mom, my sisters, my aunties, the people I imagined would be there for these life changing moments. They visited as much as they could, and I was so grateful, but they couldn’t be there for the every night feeds, the postpartum tears, or the long stretch of six months of darkness that good ol Alaska brings.

That experience lit something in me. I became a doula because I never wanted another parent to feel that kind of isolation during such a sacred, vulnerable time. Birth and postpartum are already full of unknowns, but doing it without a lot of support? That’s a kind of strength no one should have to summon alone. I created my village and hold on to them dearly to this day. 💛

Now, I make sure I show up, as a doula, as a postpartum nurse, a birthy bestie, whatever I need to be for new parents who need someone in their corner. Whether you’re surrounded by family or starting fresh in a new city, sometimes you need someone to remind you of just how powerful you are. You deserve that. We all do. 💕

Labor doesn’t happen all at once, it happens in stages, and each one has its own rhythm. Here’s a simple breakdown of the 3 main stages of labor:

1️⃣ Early Labor:
This is your body’s warm-up! Your contractions start mild and irregular, your cervix is slowly opening (dilating), and you might feel excited, nervous, or both. Many parents spend this time resting, eating, or doing light activities to stay comfortable.

2️⃣ Active Labor:
Things get more intense. Contractions are stronger, longer, and closer together. This is when your cervix dilates from about 6 to 10 cm. It’s a great time to lean into comfort measures—breathing, movement, massage, and lots of encouragement from your birth team.

3️⃣ Birth + Placenta Stage:
Once you’re fully dilated, it’s time to meet your baby! You’ll feel the urge to push, and your care team will guide you through delivering your baby. Afterward, you’ll also birth the placenta (yes, that’s part of the process!).

🌸 Tip: Understanding the stages of labor can help you feel more confident and prepared for what’s ahead.
