25 years ago today I was privileged to open the doors to SEEK the only brain injury specific program in Hampton Roads. The second in the state of Virginia. In 2008, as part of the Buckley Foundation, we changed the name to Beacon House. In 2012, we became part of the Eggleston Family. In 2018 we we received funding to add Case Management Services to the BI community. It warms my heart to see Beacon House and Case Management still thriving. As I reflect back on the hundreds of BI survivors and families we have had the privilege to support I am so thankful and honored to have been a part of their journeys. Here’s to many more years!

Today, let’s highlight Kamryn’s story. Due to drunk driving, Kamryn’s life changed forever. She remained strong and positive even with her daily struggles with the help of her family and of course, her Beacon House friends. She’s here because she wants to prove that SHE IS MORE THAN HER BRAIN INJURY.

Our Story

Eggleston’s Beacon House is a program serving adults who have become disabled as a result of a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), stroke, or other debilitating brain injury.

Beacon uses a “clubhouse” model. What this means is the persons served are within a membership organization and are being taught the recovery of skills they may have lost through brain injury. This restorative environment provides opportunities to gain and maintain friendships, interact with others, and gain access to the services and supports they may need.

At Beacon House, which serves the Hampton Roads area, individuals can learn or regain skills necessary to live a productive and empowering life. Through contributing to every aspect of the clubhouse, members gain confidence and self-respect. They develop meaningful friendships and perform work that is important to them and to the success of the clubhouse community in which they live.
