What I am trying to do is encourage African Americans to trace their family tree. And I am going to try on a weekly basis to bring to their attention in as many ways as i can [FINGERS CROSSED i can get an article written for a newspaper] to inform them that if they want it might be possible for them to join the Daughters or Sons of the American Revolution by informing them of certain individuals who did serve in the American Revolution, all that needs to be done is trace your LINEAGE to them. And you don't have to join either. I just want to inform people that the possibility exists: I started with these individuals because they are "local" to the tidewater area.
and can be found in a book by Bobby G Moss and Michael c. scoggins African American Patriots in the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution.
Nathaniel Anderson, from PAC, and supposedly served as a Seaman, more research is needed here.
2nd is Evans Archer from Portsmouth, he served as a Private under Captain John Anderson in Virginia's 1st Regiment. [There is alot of info on him.]
the 3rd is JAMES BASS from Norfolk County, he was one of the participants at the battle of great bridge. There is more info on him.
4th, William Boush, from PAC was a seaman, he is not to be confused with the William Boush who gave cattle to the cause.
5th is Charles Cuffey from PAC, he was in the Virginia Line.
6th is a relatively famous individual WILLIAM FLORA, or Billy flora who participated in the Battle of Great Bridge
7th is Jack Knight he was in Navy on board the schooner patriot.
8th is Saul Matthews he served under Colonel Josiah Parkers 5th Regiment.
9th is JAMES THOMAS he is from Norfolk County and served as a boatswain mate on the Northampton.
and PAC, is my short hand for Princess Anne County or Virginia Beach.
