What is the one headache of most audiologists? Smartphone connectivity. When phone issues arise, it is more likely related to the phone than to the actual hearing aids. Case in point....Apple has just upgraded to iOS 15.4 and when you update your phones to this new iOS, you will lose connectivity with your phone. Most likely this will occur with ALL hearing aid manufacturers, but it has definitely been reported with Oticon, Phonak, Resound and Starkey. Here is what the manufacturers are suggesting you do:

1) Un-pair the hearing aids in IOS settings with the app running in the background.

2) Re-pair your hearing aids with the app still running in the background.

3) Go back to the app and complete the pairing flow as prompted.

This may solve the problem permanently, or perhaps you will have to do this daily, we are not sure as of yet.

****For those unfamiliar with unpairing and pairing your phone - open your app on your phone. Next go to your phone settings and click on accessibility. Next, turn your hearing aids off/on then find hearing devices on your phone and click on that. On the next screen, your hearing aids should be listed. Click on the devices and then choose "forget these devices." Go back one screen and wait until your hearing aids are visible again. Once visible, click on them and then you will click pair twice.

For those of you with newer Phonak technology: go to BT devices and find the hearing aid listed. Click the gear, to the right and choose unpair. Then turn the hearing aid off and on again and then scan for devices from your BT menu and re-pair.

After repairing any manufacturer, go back to the currently open app and re-connect them based upon the apps instructions. It may simply require turning them off/on once again.

If you have any questions on this please text our main number 757-461-4327 and we will get back to you quickly. For those without texting capabilities, please email Sabrina at sabrina@virginiahearing.com. By texting or emailing us, we can ensure to get you instructions based upon your need.
