Zariya Booker joined the Lynchburg division of SSVA on June 28, 2022, and since then she has become such a valued and appreciated member of the team. From the very beginning, Zariya brought a calm, positive energy along with compassion and dedication to the individuals she supports as a DSP. Monday Motivation 💚Your mental health matters.💚

In the work we do, it’s easy to keep pushing—but taking care of yourself is not a break from the work… it’s what allows you to do it well.
✨ It’s okay to pause
✨ Step away when you need a moment
✨ Ask for support
✨ Set boundaries with compassion

Let this week be about presence over perfection.

Take care of yourselves—and each other. 💚

Today we recognize Dawn Petterson as Wednesday Warrior. Dawn has been a Sponsor Residential Provider with SSVA since 2022, and throughout her time with the organization she has consistently demonstrated compassion, dedication, and an unwavering willingness to support others.

Dawn is someone who can always be counted on to step in and lend a helping hand whenever it is needed. She attends nearly every company event and continuously brings a positive and uplifting presence wherever she goes. Her kind heart, caring spirit, and genuine love for people makes her a joy to work alongside and a blessing to everyone fortunate enough to know her.

One of Dawn’s most admirable qualities is her ability to see the beauty, strengths, and capabilities in every individual she meets. She treats others with kindness, patience, and respect, and her encouragement has a lasting impact on both staff and individuals served. Dawn’s calm and peaceful nature creates an environment where others feel valued, supported, and cared for.

Outside of work, Dawn is also an avid animal lover who enjoys attending dog shows whenever she has the opportunity, which speaks even further to her compassionate and nurturing personality.
Thank you, Dawn, for being such an incredible part of the SSVA family. Your dedication, positivity, and servant heart do not go unnoticed. We truly appreciate all that you do and are grateful to have such a rock star on our team.

Monday Motivation -

As we move into our second week of Mental Health Awareness Month, I want to gently remind us of something we often overlook in the busy pace of our work and lives:

There is strength in slowing down.
In the work we do, we spend so much time supporting others—guiding, encouraging, advocating, and responding. And while that work is meaningful, it also asks a lot of our nervous systems, our energy, and our hearts. There is strength in slowing down!
Even small moments matter:
🌱 Stepping outside for fresh air
🌱 Taking three intentional breaths between tasks
🌱 Offering yourself the same kindness you give so freely to others
At SSVA, we believe in creating environments where people are supported, valued, and heard—and that includes you.💙

Wednesday Warrior - Realizing Success

This week we are excited to recognize Tasha Tankard, an Eastern Shore Community Engagement Direct Support Professional whose dedication and experience make a lasting impact on the individuals she supports. Tasha joined SSVA as a DSP in October of 2025 and within months, she became a DSPM. Tasha has been in the caring field since 1999! She brings more than two decades of compassion, knowledge, and commitment to her work.

Tasha’s background includes extensive experience in home health with Caring Touch, CHKD, Shore Memorial, and local nursing homes, giving her a well‑rounded skill set that supports individuals with patience, dignity, and respect. Her calm approach and genuine care help people feel safe, supported, and empowered in the community.

Family is very important to Tasha. She is a proud mother of two daughters and a loving grandmother to three grandchildren, and her strong family values are reflected in the way she supports others—always with warmth, understanding, and encouragement.

In her spare time, Tasha enjoys cooking and is also a gamer, interests that bring balance and creativity into her life. These qualities shine through in her work, helping her connect naturally with the individuals she supports.

We are grateful for Tasha’s dedication, experience, and heart. Thank you, Tasha, for everything you do and for being a true Wednesday Warrior!

💚 Monday Motivation – Mental Health Awareness Month

Start with compassion.

Mental health isn’t something we check in at the door when we come to work — it comes with us, just like our experiences, our stress, and our care for others.

This month is a reminder to extend compassion outward and inward.
🩷Take a breath.
💙Ask for support when you need it.
💜 Offer grace where you can.

You matter — not just for what you do, but for who you are. 💚

Feeling incredibly grateful for this amazing team at Support Services of Virginia, Inc.!

MONDAY MOTIVATION - Autism Acceptance Month 🎉♾️
As April winds down, let’s remember: autism acceptance isn’t “a month.” It’s a commitment — to belonging.

Belonging is built through:
🤝 relationships that are real
🗣️ communication that is respected (in all forms)
🏡 supports that protect dignity, autonomy, and choice
🌎 communities where people are welcomed exactly as they are

At SSVA, our values guide this: we care about others, build relationships, do the right thing, pursue learning and growth, and create fun experiences.

Let’s carry that forward — not just in April, but every day. 💛

🌍 Wednesday Warrior Spotlight - Planet Earth 🌱

This week to honor Earth Day, our Wednesday Warrior is our planet Earth—resilient, generous, and continuing to give to us, even when we don’t always take the best care of her.

Earth shows up every day, providing the places where we live, work, heal, and connect. To honor her, we’re also sharing new images from Artemis II, reminding us of the beauty, strength, and creativity that surround us—and what’s worth protecting.

Each of us can do something to help, and be an Earth Day Warrior, by:
♻️ Reducing waste and recycling when we can
💡 Using energy and resources mindfully
🚶‍♀️ Walking, sharing rides, and caring for our surroundings
🌱 Respecting outdoor spaces and community places
🤝 Supporting people to engage with their communities in thoughtful, sustainable ways

Being a warrior doesn’t require big acts—just intention, awareness, and care.

This week, let’s honor the Earth that supports us all and commit to doing our part—today and every day. 🌎💚

MONDAY MOTIVATION - Autism Acceptance Month 🌿♾️
Acceptance looks like access — and access often starts with the nervous system.
Some days, the most supportive thing we can do is make the world a little easier to navigate:
• predictable routines
• clear, respectful communication
• sensory-aware spaces
• real choice (not “compliance”)

At SSVA, we’re committed to services that are person-centered and built around what matters to the person — including their preferences, comfort, and autonomy.

This week’s motivation: Be the safe place. Be steady. Be kind. Be clear. And remember—small accommodations can be life-changing. 💛

What a treat last night! 💙
While our HR team was in town for the annual HR Conference, we had the opportunity to share dinner together—and it truly meant a lot. Chip and I were so happy to be able to spend time with this incredible group. We’re deeply grateful for the heart, dedication, and care they bring to SSVA every day. Thank you for all you do and for a really special evening together. ✨
