Wednesday Warrior - Realizing Success

Anntionetta Parish-Carter (Niki), a true force of energy, joy, and fierce dedication! She began her journey with Support Services of VA Eastern Shore Division as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) in October of 2023, —and it didn’t take long for her high energy, leadership, and heart to shine. Now serving as an Assistant Site Coordinator, Niki brings her whole self to every day, creating spaces where no one is left out and no one fades into the background. With Niki, everyone is part of the action.

Whether she’s leading a game, cheering someone on, or organizing a creative new outing, Niki's outgoing spirit sets the tone: be active, be social, and most importantly—have fun. Her group knows that when Niki’s around, they’re not just participating—they’re thriving.

Before joining us, Niki lived a “previous life” full of purpose: she’s been a CNA, Probation Officer, and a full-time mom to her incredible children. Each experience added layers to the powerhouse she is today—grounded in compassion, structure, and an unshakable commitment to advocacy.

Niki is an adamant champion for choice, independence, and fun, ensuring every individual’s voice is heard and honored. Her belief in the potential of others is contagious, and her leadership lifts the whole team

Niki you inspire us! 💙💛

Monday Motivation -

Beauty isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s found in the uniqueness of every face, every story, every soul. At SSVA, we honor the power of individuality and the strength that comes from embracing who we truly are.

This week, let’s remind ourselves and each other:

✨ You are beautiful because you are YOU.
✨ Your differences are your superpowers.
✨ Real success begins with self-love and acceptance.

Let’s continue building a positive and peaceful world where everyone feels seen, valued, and celebrated—just as they are. 💙💛

Monday Motivation - Celebrating National Wellness Month

At SSVA, we realize success by helping others realize theirs—and that includes supporting wellness in all its forms. This August, let’s recommit to nurturing not just those we serve, but also ourselves and each other.

“When we care for ourselves, we create the strength to care for others.” — Unknown

Whether it’s a mindful moment, a walk in nature, or simply checking in with a colleague, every act of wellness contributes to a more positive and peaceful world.
Let’s make wellness a shared journey this month. 💙💛

Monday Motivation – Keep your Face in the Sun!

Helen Keller knew better than most the power of perspective, perseverance, and hope. Born deaf and blind, she didn’t let limitations define her—instead, she became a symbol of resilience, advocacy, and possibility.

At SSVA, we are often walking alongside people as they navigate shadows—of disability, of trauma, of being misunderstood. But your support, your belief in what’s possible, helps turn them toward the light.

This week, remember:

☀️ Stay focused on the good—yours and others’.
☀️ Let your energy reflect the light you want to share.
☀️ Hope isn’t just a feeling—it’s something we create through action.

Keep your face to the sun. Even on cloudy days, you help others find their light.💙💛

Wednesday Warrior - Realizing Success

Sarah Ho**er has been part of the SSVA Hampton Roads team since December 2022. She began her journey as a Direct Support Professional and quickly rose to the role of Assistant Site Coordinator in the Hampton Roads Group Homes—a reflection of her hard work, dedication, and natural leadership.

Sarah’s efforts speak volumes. Whether she’s getting people to their appointments, assisting with medications, running errands, or managing the countless details that keep things running smoothly, she does it all with care, focus, and a big heart. Her ability to juggle so much and still give her best every day is truly inspiring.

Reliable, kind, and grounded, Sarah is a steady presence and a source of strength for both the people she supports and her fellow team members.

Outside of work, Sarah is a proud mom of three boys and is constantly on the move—attending sports games, family events, and making sure her village is taken care of. She lives by the belief that “it takes a village,” and she embodies that spirit in everything she does.

Monday Motivation - The Ripple Effect

Never underestimate the difference you can make in the life of another. Every action you take—no matter how small—creates a ripple.

Kay often said, “It takes a ripple to make a wave.” And that’s exactly what we do each day.

Whether it’s offering encouragement, showing up consistently, or simply listening with empathy, you are creating movement. Like a drop in the ocean, your impact travels—touching people, shifting energy, and building waves of change far beyond what you can see.

This week, remember:

💙 A single act of kindness can start a chain reaction.
💛 Your steady presence brings calm to choppy waters.
💙 Your words may echo in someone’s heart long after you’ve spoken them.

Keep creating ripples. Together, we are the wave.

Wednesday Warrior - Realizing Success

Eva Giggetts joined SSVA in January 2025 and has already made an incredible impact in a short amount of time. With over 13 years of experience as a CNA, Eva brings a wealth of compassion and skill to her role as a Direct Support Professional.

She often says she wishes she had become a DSP sooner—and we’re so glad she made the leap! Eva finds deep joy in supporting others and is equally uplifted by the connections she builds with the people she serves.

Her kind heart and dedication were recognized this spring when she was named Danville’s Hall of Fame Winner in May—a true reflection of her belief that everyone has value.💙💛

Thank you, Eva, for the light you bring to SSVA. We're lucky to have you! 💛

Monday Motivation - Start Where You Are

Arthur Ashe was more than a champion on the court—he was a changemaker. The first Black man to win singles titles at Wimbledon, the U.S. Open, and the Australian Open, he broke barriers with quiet strength. Off the court, he used his voice to fight for justice, equality, and healthcare. Even after his HIV diagnosis, he led with courage and compassion. His words remind us that we don’t need perfect conditions to make an impact—we just need to begin.

At SSVA, this is what we do every day.

💙 We start where we are—with the people we support, our teams, our communities.
💛 We use what we have—our skills, our hearts, and our commitment to inclusion and empowerment.
💙 We do what we can—knowing that small actions, done with intention, create lasting change.

This week, draw inspiration from Ashe’s legacy:
💛 Lead with thoughtfulness.
💙 Act with purpose.
💛 Show up with courage, even when the path isn’t clear.

Every gesture matters. Every voice counts. Every day is an opportunity to do good.
