💙Why Person Centered Thinking Matters💛
For people supported by services, it’s not just about creating a person centered plan—it’s about fostering a culture of person centered thinking. If individuals are to have positive control over their lives and self-directed lives within their communities, those who work with them daily need strong person centered thinking skills.

Benefits of Person Centered Thinking Training
🔸Plans are more likely to be used and acted on, improving lives.
🔹Provides multiple ways to start plans naturally.
🔸Makes updating plans easier and less time-consuming.
🔹Every style of person centered planning is rooted in this way of thinking.

Training in person centered planning is as much about how we think as it is about developing plans. Our sessions teach essential lifestyle planning skills and tools that help learners embrace this mindset.

Wednesday Warrior - Realizing Success

Shawn Richards joined SSVA in 2019 as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), where his compassion and commitment quickly made an impact. In 2023, he took the next step in becoming a Site Coordinator for In-Home Services. Through his hard work and reliability, he took on extra responsibilities such as assisting with appointments, picking up and dropping off medications, and ensuring DSP notes were completed for billing.

His dedication and teamwork continued to shine, and now he is taking another exciting leap — recently becoming the Site Coordinator for a Group Home! Our residents have welcomed him warmly into their home, and he’s already building strong relationships as someone they can count on for support. His enthusiasm and leadership continue to grow and strengthen as he encourages not only the individuals that he supports but also the DSP's that he supervises.

Shawn enjoys spending time with his cats, Coco and Zoro, playing Pokémon, and volunteering in the community. 💙💛

Last Thursday was World Kindness Day, a reminder that compassion and care are powerful tools for change.

At SSVA, kindness is woven into everything we do—from supporting individuals in our programs to uplifting one another as teammates. It’s how we help others realize their success, and in turn, realize our own.

"Kindness is free. Sprinkle that stuff everywhere.” – Tabitha Brown, actress, author, and advocate for wellness and joy

Let’s keep the kindness flowing this week. Every small act contributes to a more positive and peaceful world for all. 💛💙💛💙

Wednesday Warrior - Realizing Success

This week we recognize Regina Alexander, who joined our Lynchburg team in June 2024 as a Direct Support Professional. From day one, she has demonstrated genuine care and dedication to the individuals she supports. Her compassion, kindness, and proactive approach consistently shine through in everything she does.

Because of her commitment and outstanding performance, Regina was promoted to Site Coordinator in June 2025, a well-deserved accomplishment that reflects her hard work and growth. She has truly become a valued asset to our team, leading with empathy and setting a wonderful example for others.

We are so proud of how far Regina has come in such a short time and are deeply grateful to have her as part of our SSVA family. Her positivity, reliability, and heart for the people we serve make a lasting difference every single day.

Monday Motivation – Honoring Our Veterans

Today, as we start a new week, let’s pause to honor the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of our veterans. Their dedication reminds us that true strength lies in service to others and commitment to a greater purpose.

Take inspiration from their example:
💙 Lead with integrity. Every decision matters.
💛 Persevere through challenges. Obstacles are opportunities in disguise.
🧡 Support your team. Together, we achieve more.

Let’s carry this spirit forward in everything we do. Thank you to all who have served—you inspire us every day.

Wednesday Warrior - Realizing Success

Today we honor Susan B., a true cornerstone of the SSVA family since 1997! When Susan returned to Hampton Roads from West Virginia, she brought with her a passion for creating a life on her terms—and she’s been doing so ever since, showing others that it is possible.

Susan has been one of the best guides for our team, helping us understand alternative communication, showing us how to create person-centered services, and to encouraging us embrace positive practices as a means to creating long term, positive change.

Susan exemplifies the desire for autonomy. Her ability to create a life of her choosing reminds us that independence and choice are at the heart of meaningful support.

Susan is also a shining example of overcoming challenges with sensory perceptions and limited verbal communication, proving that strength comes in many forms. Recently, Susan has faced complex medical issues with courage and grace, inspiring all of us with her unwavering spirit.

Susan, you are truly our hero—your courage, wisdom, and resilience (and sense of humor) make SSVA stronger every day. 💙💛 You inspire us!

Monday Motivation -

As tomorrow marks Election Day, let John Lewis’s words guide us today:

🔹Recognize the privilege and responsibility.
Voting isn’t just a right—it’s our collective voice and legacy.
🔸Prepare with purpose.
Gather your ballots, double-check polling hours, and plan your route. These small
actions ensure your participation.
🔹Inspire action in others.
Remind others that their voices matter.
🔸Reflect on the power of nonviolent change.
Every community shaped by voter participation stands as a testament to
peaceful, purposeful action.

Today let's celebrate the journey toward equality remembering that every vote builds on the sacrifices made by those who fought for this right.

Together, let’s honor the courage of trailblazers like John Lewis by showing up—tomorrow, and every day after.

Tomorrow Let's Vote!! 💙💛

Wednesday Warrior - Realizing Success

Janice Johnson is the true picture of strength, heart, and dedication. As a Site Coordinator and proud member of the Danville team since 2011, she’s been a steady force of love, leadership, and creativity for well over a decade.
Balancing two full-time jobs, Janice still pours her energy into the people and passions that matter most. A proud grandmother and soon-to-be Nana again, her life is rooted in family and guided by her faith.

She’s known for her creativity—whether it’s decorating, baking, or speaking her mind with honesty and grace. With a book in one hand and her famously oversized pocketbook in the other, Janice moves through life with style—especially when it’s time to break out her beloved fall boots.

A lifelong Redskins fan and holiday enthusiast, Janice never misses a chance to celebrate in full spirit. Her motto, “God first, and everything follows,” is a reflection of the joy and warmth she brings to those around her.

Janice recently became a Monthly Impressions Winner for a submission from Samantha Morris:
"You are always thinking of the individuals, trying to make every day as fun and entertaining as possible for them. You are very creative and bring so much enthusiasm to Day Support. Thank you for all your effort and dedication!"

You inspire us! 💙💛

Monday Motivation -

"Where there's hope, there's life. It fills us with fresh courage and makes us strong again."
— Anne Frank

As October draws to a close, we honor the strength of those who face life’s challenges with courage and grace. Whether it’s the journey through disability, the fight against breast cancer, or the path to healing from domestic violence—hope remains our guiding light.

At SSVA, we believe in realizing success by helping others realize theirs. Let’s continue to be a source of hope, strength, and peace for one another. Because together, we build a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Hope is powerful. Let’s share it. 💙💙

Wednesday Warrior - Realizing Success

This week, we proudly recognize Jeanie Houston as our Wednesday Warrior!

Jeanie began her journey with SSVA in 2003 as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) and has been a cornerstone of our team ever since. A Navy veteran, Jeanie brings discipline, compassion, and a deep commitment to helping others succeed.

Jill Jennings shared a heartfelt Impression that truly captures Jeanie’s spirit:
"You are always there when I need help, you explain things so that I can understand and learn the correct way of doing things on the MAR. I just wanted to say a big thank you for taking the time to teach me and showing me patience as I ask questions. You are amazing."

Jeanie exemplifies our value of Helping Others Realize Success. Her patience, clarity, and willingness to support her colleagues make her an invaluable part of SSVA. Whether she’s guiding someone through a process or simply being a steady presence, Jeanie’s impact is felt far and wide.

Thank you, Jeanie, for your years of service, your leadership, and your unwavering dedication. You truly are amazing! 💙💛
