šŸ”Š Today is International Noise Awareness Day! šŸ”‡

Noise is all around us—but prolonged or sudden loud sounds can have lasting effects, including hearing loss and tinnitus.Whether it’s concerts, traffic, or even everyday environments, protecting your ears matters.

Here are some decibel ratings for common sounds:

Normal conversation: 60-70 dBA
Lawnmowers: 80 to 100 dBA
Sports events: 94 to 110 dBA
Sirens from emergency vehicles: 110 to 129 dBA
Fireworks: 140 to 160 dBA

Long or repeated exposure to sounds at or above 85 dBA can cause hearing loss. Decibel meters are one way to measure potential hazards to your hearing health. The Sound Level Meter smartphone app developed by the CDC’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is one example of a decibel meter app that helps people evaluate sound risks in their environments so they can develop strategies to prevent hearing damage.

Here’s how you can protect your hearing:
šŸ‘‚ Use hearing protection (earplugs are small but powerful!)
šŸ“µ Take noise breaks—step away from loud spaces
šŸ“‰ Keep your volume at safe levels, especially with headphones

Your hearing is worth protecting—today and every day.

Feeling tired after a long day of listening? Listening fatigue is common for people with hearing loss.

Three areas of our brain connect with the auditory system to help interpret sound and produce speech:
-Broca’s Area: speech production
-Wernicke’s Area: speech comprehension
-Temporal Lobe: manages hearing

For the listener with hearing in the ā€œnormalā€ range, these areas of the brain function as the perfect team, allowing communication to seem effortless. But, with the addition of hearing loss, the brain has to work, think, and concentrate harder, and this teamwork is disrupted, increasing the challenges of communication and leading to listening fatigue.

This , reduce listening fatigue by wearing hearing aids, lessening background noise, taking breaks to relax, and making an appointment with a hearing professional to address any hearing loss that you may have.
