Vaginal discharge is a natural and important part of your reproductive health—but sometimes changes can signal that something’s not right.

👉 Normal discharge may be:
• Clear or white
• Thin and stretchy around ovulation
• Mild in odor

🚩 When to call your OB/GYN:
• Discharge that’s yellow, green, gray, or blood-tinged (outside your period)
• Strong or foul odor
• Thick, chunky, or frothy texture
• Accompanied by itching, burning, or pain

These changes could point to conditions like yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis, or STIs.

At Tidewater Physicians for Women in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, VA, we’re here to help you understand what’s normal and when to seek care.

Struggling to get a good night's rest in midlife? You’re not imagining things—hormones might just be playing a game of hide and seek!

As we step into midlife, those hormonal changes can really wreak havoc on our sleep patterns. Declining levels of estrogen and progesterone often lead to those pesky restless nights. But hey, you’re definitely not alone in this!

One thing that’s helped me is adopting a calming bedtime routine. Whether it's a warm bath, soothing music, or a good book, finding what relaxes you can make a big difference. And if sleep is still elusive, it might be a good idea to chat with a healthcare provider about hormone management.

For more insights and tips, check out our latest blog: https://tidewaterobgyn.com/sleep-and-hormones-why-youre-tossing-and-turning-in-midlife/. It dives deeper into why sleep can feel like a distant dream during midlife.

Now offering medical Nitrous Oxide in-office!

Tidewater Physicians for Women is pleased to provide medical Nitrous Oxide during in-office procedures at our Norfolk location. This safe and effective option can help reduce anxiety, ease discomfort, and make your experience more comfortable—while allowing you to stay awake and responsive throughout.

✔️ Reduces anxiety and fear
✔️ Dulls pain for improved comfort
✔️ Keeps you conscious and in control
✔️ Minimal side effects

Patients simply hold a mask or mouthpiece to their face and inhale as needed. A specially designed valve delivers the nitrous only when they breathe in—giving full control over dosage and duration. Relief is typically felt within seconds and wears off quickly after use, letting patients adjust to their comfort level in real time.

Wondering if Nitrous Oxide is right for you? Talk to your physician at your next visit.

HRT is the most effective treatment for relieving many common menopausal and perimenopausal symptoms, including:

- Hot flashes and night sweats: These symptoms often improve quickly with HRT, helping you sleep better and feel more comfortable.
- Mood swings and irritability: Hormone therapy may help stabilize mood and reduce anxiety or depression linked to hormone fluctuations.
- Vaginal dryness and pain during s*x: Estrogen therapy can restore vaginal tissue, improving lubrication and elasticity.
- Sleep problems: Many women report better rest once night sweats and anxiety are under control.
- Fatigue and cognitive fog: Balanced hormone levels often help women regain energy and mental clarity.

Long-Term Benefits of HRT
When started within 10 years of menopause or before age 60, HRT may also offer long-term protection against:
- Osteoporosis: Estrogen helps maintain bone density and reduces the risk of fractures.
- Heart disease: Estrogen may help lower the risk of heart disease in younger postmenopausal women when used appropriately.
- Urinary health: Vaginal estrogen can help prevent recurrent urinary tract infections and improve bladder function.
- Skin and joint health: Estrogen supports collagen production, which can benefit both skin elasticity and joint comfort.

Learn more about the benefits of HRT and talk to your provider to find out if it's right for you.
