Did you know that each year, the USLA’s National Statistics Program compiles millions of data points from certified agencies? These statistics are vital for:

–Validating the 1-in-18 Million Standard: Providing proof that beaches protected by USLA-affiliated lifeguards are the safest places for the public to swim.
–Securing Resources: Helping agencies nationwide justify budgets, equipment, and staffing levels to local governments.
–Advancing Education: Identifying trends that shape our public safety campaigns and rip current awareness.

Meet Lieutenant Adam Bailey! Adam has been apart of the VBLS family for 6 years, one year as a guard and 5 as a supervisor. Before VBLS, he guarded for 5 years back in his home state of Delaware! His favorite part about his job is the friends he’s made along the way and sharing waves with his coworkers when the waves are good🌊 His Oceanfront lunch recommendation is (specifically the Free Mason sandwich)

Lastly, but certainly the most important, his tip for all patrons visiting the beach is to “FILL IN YOUR HOLES BEFORE YOU LEAVE and not dig more than waist deep!!”

Meet Sergeant Cooper Gavin! As a 6th year, this year will be his first season as a supervisor! His favorite aspect of the job is the chance to make a difference in the community that he loves. On his break you can find Cooper bodysurfing the best break he can find and maybe stopping by for lunch!

His biggest tip for all beach goers is to communicate all your questions and concerns with your lifeguard when you come to the beach, and make sure to listen for the whistle visiting the beach!🌊

Thank you Cooper for your continued dedication to VB Ocean Rescue! 🛟
