💛Curious about hiring a birth doula? Join Motherhood Collective in La Crosse next week, to meet some!💛

Meet the Doulas
February 26th
Wednesday, 6-7pm

What is a doula? Why would I want to use a doula for labor or postpartum support? How do doulas decrease c- section rates and other interventions in birth? Is doula care evidence based?

Get your questions answered and meet some local doulas from our community!
This event meets 6-7pm at The Motherhood Collective Studio. It is free for prenatal yoga students (and their partners) and $5 for community members not attending prenatal yoga that evening.

Just a few of the local doulas joining us:

March is Pregnancy After Loss Awareness month 🌈 Based in MN, the non-profit Pregnancy After Loss Support has an amazing website of resources including support groups, book reviews and more 🌈

There are so many mixed emotions during pregnancy after loss. Can you relate?

"I thought being pregnant and having another baby would be a joyous time, a time I yearned for. Yet, I soon realized how naive I was, and for me, pregnancy after loss was an experience full of fear and anxiety. I thought I’d be over the moon and appreciate pregnancy after loss, but I just couldn’t seem to feel those things."
This quote is from Abbie Sydenham's, "The Raw and Uncomfortable Reality of Pregnancy After Loss." Read here ➡️ https://pregnancyafterlosssupport.org/uncomfortable-reality-of-pregnancy-after-loss/

✨Doula Mentorship✨

I love a doula's heart. I've had the great fortune to learn from & support many birthworkers over the years. Sometimes it is a brand new doula eager & fresh out of doula training and they are not sure what to do next. Or perhaps someone who has attended a few handfuls of births and then attends a really "tough one". It hits differently and they need to process yet really want confidentiality and someone who gets it.

Wherever someone is on their doula journey, I offer mentorship.
This could look like:
✨A one-time phone/video call (or if local to Viroqua, in person) to process a specific question.
✨Ongoing monthly or quarterly support packages, renewed as needed.

🌿I'm happy to do a free consultation to see if the match is good. Cost: First session: $60/hour. Packages are available for multiple sessions.

☀️☀️Community building in La Crosse!☀️☀️

The Motherhood Collective is proud to be a community partner in Gundersen Health System’s new Supportive Pregnancy Care program.

The first of its kind in our area, this program is lead by Dr Heather Riese. The Supportive Pregnancy Care program supports individuals experiencing teen pregnancy, addiction, recovery, anxiety, depression, & other mental health challenges during the perinatal period through interdisciplinary community based care.

Our open house was yesterday & prenatal yoga classes + education, community, support, & prenatal/ postpartum care begin next Tuesday, March 5th at the YMCA’s Healthy Living Center.

If you think this program might be the right fit for you please reach out to your midwife or OB to enroll. We are grateful for this opportunity to change & shape maternal health care in our community.❤️

Thanks to all our community partners:

✨Life Long Learner✨

I am looking forward to deepening my understanding of trauma-informed care this year. The International Conference on Trauma & Embodiment is on my calendar and I have enrolled in a trauma-sensitive yoga course to enrich my movement and breath practice. I love the whole system approach to health and models that actively share power and agency with folks they support. Yes!✨✨

100% ONLINE • Register today for our unique global exposition, presented by mental health and movement professionals from around the world. This year's conference is April 5-7, 2024 with over a dozen presentations about trauma, dance, yoga, fitness, mental health and more. ASL Accessible.

Pregnancy AFTER miscarriage 👇

As I’ve said before, miscarriage doesn’t begin and end with learning about your loss. Your journey will continue during your next pregnancy, if pregnancy is a goal after you’ve experienced loss.

I can’t lie - pregnancy after loss is really, really difficult but the fear and anxiety comes in waves. My wish for you is that when that time comes, rather it’s now or in the future, you’re able to navigate that part of your journey in whatever way works for you.

Personally, here’s what really helped me and what I recommend as a starting point for clients:
⭐️ Journaling daily - writing down fears, exciting milestones, or the symptoms of pregnancy
⭐️ Affirmations like “today, I am pregnant” really help you see that this journey is a “day at a time” type of thing. All you can do is your best to make it through every day and eventually, those days add up to 40 weeks (or close to it!)
⭐️ Set small goals and celebrate every single one that you are able to check off your list (we talk more about this in my sessions!)
⭐️ Advocate for extra care from your doctor! Don’t be afraid to do this. You deserve the type of care that makes you feel safe.
⭐️ Being active during pregnancy is a trigger for SO many - try something light like prenatal yoga. My favorite is because I feel that it focuses on a mind/body connection instead of only talking about big pregnant bellies

There are a lot of things you ca do to support yourself and ask for support during pregnancy after loss, these tips are just a few to help you in the early days! At the end of the day, you are doing your best to get through a really hard time that is normally exciting for others. It’s okay to feel defeated and upset over feeling fear during this stage - just don’t unpack there and live in the fear forever.
