The charter for our coaches can be summed up in a single sentence:

“My competency is determined solely by my efficacy.”

This means what determines how good you are is how good you are for your clients — your ability to deliver results.

We ask a lot of our coaches.

And we believe the act of coaching is deliberate, focused attention: looking at one person at a time, caring deeply about their hopes and challenges, and helping them progress step by step so they can discover their true potential.

The CrossFit coach is not a cheerleader or a character who is there to entertain. Instead, our coaches display true character through knowing and serving someone else with the goal of helping them achieve their goals.

Laurie has been with us for 6 months and we are so proud of her and excited to see her results! Crossfit helping manage depression? Many people have the same experience as Laurie!

“Were you like me always chasing the number on a scale? Have you tried every diet and exercise out there and still feel like something was missing? Well that was me. I just became an empty nester, worked by my self most days,and about to turn 50. I was feeling very lost and depressed.
I had checked out Crossfit twice before, many years ago. I even took a tour of it once,but made excuses not to join. I kept finding my self coming back to Crossfit , reading and followin on Facebook. The third time must of been the charm! I walked thru the doors 6 months ago and never 2nd guessed my self again. I found the missing piece. I am not just walking around a gym not knowing what to do, all alone. I now have my depression under control without medication. I have amazing coach lead classes that only allow a small class size, to insure you get the one on one training. I finally feel part of something and everyone is so amazing! They are not just people working out at same time as you, they have become my friends. Crossfit is more than a gym, it’s an amazing community! My only regret is I didn’t join it sooner!”

In CrossFit, we don’t get our results from a lab. Instead, the data that guides our training and nutrition recommendations is collected from countless workouts where time, weight, distance, and reps are measured.

The measurement and recording of workouts is part of our culture and makes CrossFit a giant, efficient experiment conducted in garages, affiliates, and parks all around the world.

Every recorded workout is a data point that contributes to the experiment. It is this measurable, observable, and repeatable data collected from tens of thousands of athletes that has allowed us to prove the value of intensity, functional movements, variance, and whole foods eaten in the proper amounts for optimizing fitness and health.

And most importantly, as best practices permeate the community, we learn and implement what really works for our athletes.

We say: You just have to show up and do the work and you’ll get the results. This rewards and develops work ethic and discipline.

Your effort is measurable and you’re going to share your results with us, and with each other, with visible scores on the whiteboard. This fosters accountability and courage.

And because it’s infinitely scalable — that is we scale to meet you where you are but we do not change programs — everyone knows the challenge you faced and you're respected and welcomed for your effort no matter who you are or where you land on the scoreboard. These are key ingredients that build genuine camaraderie and belonging.

In truth, it’s a formula — a formula that works. It’s the formula for everything we do, from forging elite fitness to preventing and reversing chronic disease. It’s the inputs that give us the outcomes — the results that have revolutionized an industry and changed millions of lives across the world for the better.

This formula is the CrossFit methodology plus our ethos. This is the authentic, no-bs heart of what we believe and stand upon — and this is all brought to life by our coaches and lived and reinforced by our community.

How CrossFit Viroqua came to be!

I have always been into fitness. Growing up, I was always participating in school sports and continued through college as I pursued a degree in Exercise Science. After graduating from Central College in Pella, IA, I started my career as a personal trainer helping people one-on-one and slowly growing into small group training. One day a client asked if I had heard of CrossFit. My college pole vault coach had introduced me to CrossFit and I had been following the main site on and off for a few years. I began following more intently and decided to get my CrossFit Level 1 in December of 2012 so I could begin coaching as an official CrossFit coach. WOW, did that change things up for me! As soon as I returned, I switched all my prior programming for my clients and started incorporating the programming into my own workouts. After a few short months of doing CrossFit style workouts, I noticed faster results, my joints were no longer hurting, my cardiovascular endurance was improving as well as my range of motion and I wasn't getting bored with the workouts. My clients were getting better results and having more fun in their workouts as well. In June of 2014, I opened CrossFit Viroqua under the guidance of my employer at the time, Vernon Memorial Healthcare (VMH). The support and encouragement from the community have been more than I could ever imagine! I am excited to begin a new chapter serving our current as well as welcoming new members.
