Have you ever heard of the “pink tax”?

It’s the idea that products marketed to women, like razors, deodorant, or shampoo, or tools, often cost more than the same products marketed to men. Same function, different color, higher price.

But there’s another version of the pink tax that shows up in the fitness and health world—especially during pregnancy and postpartum.

Detox teas.
“Bounce-back” programs.
Expensive supplements.
Quick-fix challenges promising results in 6 weeks or less.

My wife Morgan didn’t fall for any of that.

Throughout her entire pregnancy, she simply showed up to the gym four days a week. Not to prove anything. Not to chase a certain look. Just to stay strong, healthy, and consistent.

No gimmicks.
No shortcuts.
No expensive doodads.

That consistency helped her move through pregnancy with confidence and experience a healthy, complication-free at-home birth, something we’re incredibly grateful for.

Her story is a reminder that the opposite of the pink tax isn’t a better product.

Group classes or personal training… which one actually gets better results?

Some people love the energy of a group.
The music’s up. The whiteboard’s ready. Friends are beside you pushing through the same workout. You show up more consistently because people notice when you’re not there.

Others need something more specific.
Maybe it’s a nagging shoulder.
Maybe it’s a goal like a pull-up, weight loss, or getting ready for a big event.
They need a plan built just for them.

Here’s the truth:

You don’t have to choose one or the other.
The best results usually come from combining both.

Group classes build your engine.
Specific training fine-tunes the parts.

That’s how people move better, get stronger, and see results faster, without burning out or plateauing.

Family fitness isn’t just a concept at CrossFit Viroqua, it’s real life.

Tias and Jess started here as a young couple. We trained with them before their wedding, supported Jess through two pregnancies, and now their two boys grow up watching their parents and even their grandparents take care of their health.

Three generations. One gym. One culture of strength, support, and consistency.

How CrossFit Viroqua came to be!

I have always been into fitness. Growing up, I was always participating in school sports and continued through college as I pursued a degree in Exercise Science. After graduating from Central College in Pella, IA, I started my career as a personal trainer helping people one-on-one and slowly growing into small group training. One day a client asked if I had heard of CrossFit. My college pole vault coach had introduced me to CrossFit and I had been following the main site on and off for a few years. I began following more intently and decided to get my CrossFit Level 1 in December of 2012 so I could begin coaching as an official CrossFit coach. WOW, did that change things up for me! As soon as I returned, I switched all my prior programming for my clients and started incorporating the programming into my own workouts. After a few short months of doing CrossFit style workouts, I noticed faster results, my joints were no longer hurting, my cardiovascular endurance was improving as well as my range of motion and I wasn't getting bored with the workouts. My clients were getting better results and having more fun in their workouts as well. In June of 2014, I opened CrossFit Viroqua under the guidance of my employer at the time, Vernon Memorial Healthcare (VMH). The support and encouragement from the community have been more than I could ever imagine! I am excited to begin a new chapter serving our current as well as welcoming new members.
