Chiropractic Care is another way of looking at and treating the human body as a complete system. Treating back and neck pain is only a smart part of what chiropractors are really capable of handling. Chiropractors not only treat soft and hard tissue problems such as sciatica and joint pain, but also deal with more significant issues like fibromyalgia, allergies, insomnia, headaches and many more.

So starting with a conservative approach to your own health care such as chiropractic care before moving on to riskier treatments makes good sense. More than 27 million Americans visit a doctor of chiropractic every year for safe, effective and lasting relief from back pain, neck pain and headaches, as well as advice on healthy living and injury prevention.

The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) encourages all consumers to think “Conservative Care First!” when it comes to their health care, particularly when pain is the main complaint.

For many years, patients have sought chiropractic services only after unsuccessfully trying a range of more complex and riskier treatments. Luckily today, that trend has been reversed and medical research supports the idea that patients should exhaust conservative approaches to pain and other conditions before moving on to riskier options.

A recent study in Washington found that only 1.5 percent of state workers who visited a doctor of chiropractic first for work-related back pain later had surgery, compared to 42.7 percent of those who saw a surgeon first. Chiropractic care offers safe, successful, and cost-effective ways to reduce pain and muscle spasms. Another 2012 study found that spinal manipulation for neck and back pain was cost-effective used either alone or combined with other therapies.
