                                            Bernie Myrick – Employee Spotlight
1. How long have you been with hospice care?
I have been a hospice consultant for more than seventeen years. I have been in the healthcare field since 1989, serving Tulare and Kings Counties.
2. What prompted you to become involved in hospice?
In 2007, I was approached with a request to open a Gentiva branch in Tulare, CA, and the rest is history! This was a blessing, as my father needed hospice care, and I was able to see and experience firsthand the wonderful support received by my father and the family.
3. What are some of your personal goals this year?
To help as many families as possible caring for loved ones going through hospice.
4. What is one belief that you’ve had your whole life that you believe has helped you become who 
you are today?
Work ethic: I watched my parents, who were my role models, and emulated their drive and work ethic. Also, I have a sense of humor. I love to laugh and spend time with my family.
5. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I also wanted to work for a bank and did so for sixteen years.
6. If you could give your younger self some advice, what would it be?
I wouldn’t change anything except maybe learn more about computers!
7. What are some of your hobbies outside of work?
I ride quads and used to ride dirt bikes. I also enjoy drag racing and watching my grandsons race Mini Sprint Cars.
8. What do you love the most in your work?
I fell in love with these families after meeting them and educating them about all that hospice has to offer. It is so satisfying to be able to help. I have been in their shoes, caring for a loved one on hospice. I can relate to these families and their frustrations, and I want to help.
9. What are some habits you would like to develop?
Greater organizational skills!
10. What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I was a part of two hospice startups in Tulare County in 2007 and 2019. I am a true believer in hospice.
