HEAT Safety Equipment is Tracking FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency Grants such as S.A.F.E.R and A.F.G amid the government shutdown. FEMA has extended the deadline to accept your 2024 Awards. All dates for the upcoming 2025 AFG are not announced, it traditionally opens in November however with the State of the government being shut down it is unclear if the AFG application will open in November this year. We will be monitoring it extremely closely!

🔥🏛️ IMPORTANT AFG/SAFER UPDATE

Due to the government shutdown, FEMA has extended the deadline to accept AFG and SAFER grant funding to NOVEMBER 24, 2025, or the deadline stated in your award letter – whichever is later.

REMINDER: This deadline extension will only apply to those who've not yet accepted their award.

FEMA will update records in the FEMA GO system once government funding is restored.

Congratulations to Firefighter Micah Floyd for receiving a Lifesaving Award in recognition of his swift action that saved a life!

On September 10, 2025, Firefighter Micah Floyd and the crew of Engine 1 “A” shift were dining at a local restaurant when an unexpected medical emergency occurred. A nearby patron suddenly stumbled and collapsed onto their table. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Firefighter Floyd quickly assessed the individual and asked if they were choking. Though the patron was unable to speak, they clutched their throat—a clear sign of airway obstruction and their inability to breathe.

Without hesitation, Firefighter Floyd immediately initiated the Heimlich maneuver. After administering 5 to 6 abdominal thrusts, the obstruction was successfully dislodged, and the individual began breathing on their own. Thanks to his swift and effective response, no further medical treatment was necessary, and the patron was able to resume normal activities shortly afterward.

Firefighter Floyd’s quick thinking, professionalism, and decisive action directly resulted in saving a life. His conduct exemplifies the highest standards of emergency service and reflects great credit upon himself, his crew, and the department. He is to be highly commended for his life-saving efforts.

TEXAS FIRE DEPARTMENTS, THIS IS WHY REPORTING IS VITAL FOR ALL OF US!

From 01/01/2025 to 10/20/2025 Fire Departments have reported a cost of $1,413,446.76 for wildfire suppression in Texas. This cost goes towards the statewide FEMA threshold of $8.0 million that we must meet before anyone in Texas is eligible for FEMA funding after a disaster. This threshold starts over every January 1, so all wildfire reports you enter are greatly appreciated and could help you and your neighbor should disaster strike.

PLEASE DO YOUR REPORTING to TFS, NFIRS, NERIS, SOMEONE! Please report the losses and values of land burnt, equipment lost, resources used, all of this HAS a Value and even though Texas is not a mandatory reporting state, the funding we can get for you is DIRECTLY tied to the data and information we report.

Remember the folks' making decisions about money for the state and federal government are not firefighters and do not know the cost of a grass fire on the side of the road. They need the data to make decisions about fire funding, WE NEED YOU TO REPORT, including the estimated value, if you do not know how much things are worth FEMA a rate list you can download and you can google land cost in your area. You can also get with your local tax office they know how much everything is valued. JUST REPORT!
