“Nobody’s perfect.”

Jess Hopkins opened her Second Chance story with this reminder:
“Nobody’s perfect, and we all fall short of the glory. We need to practice a little bit more forgiveness and openness to be able to move forward in a positive way.”

Her words set the tone for this series: honest, humble, and hopeful. Because second chances aren’t about pretending we’ve never fallen short. They’re about choosing grace, offering forgiveness, and giving each other room to grow.

We’re grateful to Jess for starting this series with such a real and grounded perspective.

Follow along as others share what second chances have meant in their lives, and how they’ve had the opportunity to offer them to someone else.

We are excited to introduce our first two graduates of the Class of 2026: Kimberly and Michael!🎓 *names changed to protect confidentiality

They walked across the stage in a chapel filled with supportive peers, teachers, staff, and family, all cheering them on as they celebrated a milestone that once felt unachievable.

Kimberly plans to study cosmetology, and Michael plans to attend college to study history. We are incredibly proud of both students and ask that you join us in praying for them as they step into the next chapter of their journeys.

Moments like these, after the hard moments, fill our hearts and remind us of the 'why.'

New possibilities for students like Kimberly and Michael are worth it.💙

📣 PART 1

Home Is Worth the Hard Work: When Teams Unite, Second Chances Happen

What does permanency really look like?

Sometimes, it looks like late nights, hard conversations, steady commitment—and hope that refuses to give up.

At the heart of foster care is the belief that every child deserves a safe, lasting home. But getting there takes a village. 💙 In this powerful reunification story, you’ll hear from foster parents, a biological mom, and the professionals who walked alongside them—each playing a vital role in a journey that was anything but easy…and absolutely worth it.

Stay tuned to the Josiah White's Foster Care page over the next few weeks as this story unfolds.

✨ Part 1 is live now.

This month, we’re celebrating the HEART behind the mission God has entrusted to us—our people. ❤️

Today, Corynn Hill, one of our vocational coaches, chats with Jay Lynn, our Director of Support Services, about why he loves being part of the work of creating new possibilities for the children, teens, and families we serve.

We’re so thankful for a team led by faith, love, and service.

And don’t worry—Gus did not swallow the mic (we promise) 😉.

We heard 2016 is trending, so we had to share our version!💙💚

Back in 2016, our branding looked a little different—we were formally known as White’s Residential & Family Services. Today, you know us as Josiah White’s.

That same year, our Growing Teens for Life program was just getting started, beginning with the first greenhouse project. Fast forward to 2026, and teens in the program now have worksite opportunities and can earn training certificates in multiple vocational areas, from our 50 East Garden Center & Café to the Bill Hefner Automotive Learning Center, and more.

Leadership has evolved too. In 2016, Dee Gibson was faithfully serving as our CEO. Today, Matthew Purkey leads our organization forward, carrying the mission with vision and purpose.

While much has changed over the past ten years, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to offering hope and transformation for the children, teens, and families we serve. We can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for the next 10 years.💙

A little behind-the-scenes look at what’s coming next month.💗💗💗

February gives us space to reflect on the HEART of our work—the people who make it possible, the children, teens, and families we serve, and the community that surrounds and supports us. In the weeks ahead, you’ll hear from familiar faces as they share what this mission means to them and why creating new possibilities starts with care, connection, and LOVE.

This week, members of our Residential & Family Services teams hosted Ellen Scarborough and Greg Harper from Methodist Home for Children in North Carolina for a training focused on using Teaching-Family concepts to develop staff at every level of the organization.

The training emphasized integrating Core Training principles with consultation and evaluation practices—helping us identify areas for growth while reinforcing and expanding existing strengths.
Ellen has long-standing ties to our mission. When we first adopted the Teaching-Family Model, she served as a trusted mentor throughout the process.

We’re grateful for the insight, experience, and encouragement shared by both Ellen and Greg. Thank you for investing in our team!

One thing you may not know about the teens on our campus is that they have opportunities to go off campus and experience life in the community.💙

Over the past month, several cottages have enjoyed special outings—seeing the Christmas lights in Marion, taking a Polar Express train ride, and even grabbing dinner at Bob Evans followed by a movie in Huntington. Most recently, one cottage spent the afternoon at Crazy Pinz in Fort Wayne.

We caught them for a photo before they headed out!🎳

We love that our youth get to create memories beyond campus and experience everyday moments that help them feel connected to the world around them. We’re grateful to be able to provide these opportunities and thankful for the community support that helps make them possible.💚

Our hearts are full of gratitude for The Christ Foundation and their generous support of our Spiritual Life program.💙

This grant strengthens our ability to share the love of Christ with every person who walks through our doors and gives opportunity to develop healthy second chances. We are continually humbled by the faithful partners who make this ministry possible, and we thank each one of you for investing in the work God is doing here.

We’re sharing a perspective on fresh starts that we think you’ll love.💚

In certain seasons, foster care can offer a fresh start for children, teens and families.

Our community’s homes and families are increasingly facing a great deal of hardships in today’s world: poverty, addiction, stigma, trauma, isolation, fear, hopelessness, lies of the Enemy, and more. Kids in our own communities find themselves unable to thrive amidst these struggles.

Sometimes, families need time to put the pieces of their lives back together, and their children need a safe space to heal. That’s where foster care comes in.

Foster care steps into the gap during seasons of crisis. Not as a replacement for family, but as a support. While children are cared for in a safe, loving environment, parents are given the time, space, and resources they need to face what’s in front of them and begin rebuilding.
