✨ Let’s Talk About Cupping ✨
Cupping therapy is not new, in fact, it’s very old. It developed independently in different parts of the world:
🌍 Egypt (1500 BCE): The Ebers Papyrus mentions it for cleansing the body.
🌍 China: Over 2,000 years of cupping to move energy and circulation so the body can restore balance and heal.
🌍 Greece: Hippocrates used it for pain and disease.
🌍 Middle East (Hijama): Practiced as both medicine and spiritual cleansing.
Fast forward to today, and cupping has many styles:
• Traditional Chinese cupping: stationary cups to move stagnation.
• Hijama (Islamic cupping): dry or wet, still practiced worldwide.
• Sports medicine cupping: popular with athletes for recovery and fascia health.
• Modern esthetics cupping: facial, lymphatic, and cellulite work.
💡 The method I use most in my practice is cup gliding (sliding cupping).
Instead of leaving the cups in place, I move them gently over the skin with light suction. This:
✅ Increases circulation
✅ Mobilizes fascia and muscle tissue
✅ Reduces tension and adhesions
✅ Supports lymphatic drainage
Clients love it because it feels like a reverse massage, rather than pressing down, the cups gently lift. And unlike stationary cupping, cup gliding usually leaves minimal (if any) marks.
I often use this technique for back and shoulder tension, hip/glute discomfort, IT band tightness, and even forearm strain. It’s a versatile tool that blends ancient wisdom with modern bodywork.
