Breastfeeding is dynamic, emotional, physical and literally happening in real time, every few hours, over and over again.

We were never meant to figure it out on our own.

It’s called the gastrocolic reflex and it’s actually very common in newborns!

Suckling 👉🏼 stimulates the vagus nerve 👉🏼 tells the intestines food is coming 👉🏼 results in 💩💩💩 either during or shortly after feeds!

When to pay attention {and call your fav RD/IBCLC 🙋🏽‍♀️}
🚩 if baby has poor weight gain
🚩 or is super fussy during feeds
🚩 if there is blood/mucous in the stool

Otherwise.. happy diaper changing 🤪

BF with a toddler around is a whole new skill set level 😅

Things we are doing to keep everyone happy {and safe} during feeds:

👉🏼 feeding in spaces where I can make a barrier between Baby and Big Bro, like the chair with a big blanket around us or the couch with a pillow
👉🏼 closing baby gates/bedroom doors to keep Big Bro out of spaces we don’t want him roaming without supervision
👉🏼 offering cool new toys that Big Bro only gets to play with while Baby is nursing
👉🏼 playing music and letting Big Bro have dance parties
