Remember throughout the holidays to protect your child's right to choose in showing physical affection.

Why?

The message that forced affection sends is that it’s okay for someone to push my boundaries or make me touch them if they are bigger, more powerful, in my family, or say they “love” me…

Children do not owe physical affection to anyone, not even grandma or auntie. Stand up for your children by offering other options for greeting/goodbye, like a wave or high five. If family members persist, you can speak up for your child and their rights.

This sends a strong message to your child that it’s okay to say ‘no’ to physical touch, that you support them, and that it’s not okay to force someone else to touch you. It also sends a message to any potential abusers that your child is not an easy victim. Be your child’s advocate.

Last night we had a blast at the 3rd annual G.A.P.S. Program. There were vendors from the community, food and lots of resources. Thanks to and Mrs. Shemeca Pettis for a job well done and for choosing us to be a part of the change.
