ICYMI! (from my website:) –

Some people are on the fence about hiring a doula, but just want to pick someone’s brain for an hour (or two:) and ask every single question they’ve been jotting down in their notes app for the past few months. I’m SO happy to set up a Zoom or FaceTime session to talk with you, regardless of whether that leads to a doula services contract. All I ask is that you compensate me for my time however you are able: a Pinewood gift card, a Venmo send, homemade gluten free cookies, sharing my page on IG or FB… Any of the above will do!

Just over here constantly dreaming of a world with more informed, empowered parents who confidently and joyously journey through birth and postpartum with ample information, support, and peace.

Hi Facebook friends! I never get on here, but just wanted to give an update on what I've been up to these days:

1. Birth Assistant Training: When I'm not doula-ing, I assist local home birth midwife Revolution Birth Services with Waco births. I recently obtained my certification in NRP and BLS, and have enjoyed learning more of the medical side of things. This is helping my doula work too, as I can now more confidently communicate to families what certain events and things might mean and look like.

2. Classes, classes, classes... Recently completed classes in Virtual Doula Support and Advanced Comforting Touch. I am also in the midst of a 15-hour Holding Space for Pregnancy Loss training.

3. Advocacy! Sage: Inclusive Reproductive Network is continuing the effort to advocate for doulas to be allowed into hospitals in Central Texas! While Providence and Hillcrest are allowing doulas in alongside the partner, BSW Temple is not, and we are working on communicating with the hospital and BSW leadership to change that.

I was able to meet and support some really incredible families in 2020, and can't wait to see what (and who!) 2021 has in store. Thank you for your support and encouragement! ❤️

AWHONN - The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses's statement on doula support throughout COVID-19 has been instrumental in our petition for change at Sage: Inclusive Reproductive Network. Very thankful to Ascension Providence for now allowing both the birthing person's partner and their doula to be present throughout L&D. We are still waiting on others to make the change, but it is encouraging to know organizations like AWHONN have our back.

Also side note: Love their full statement, which also advocates for doula services and childbirth education to be covered by insurance. YES PLEASE.

One hospital down, two to go! Thank you to Peter Leibold for passing on my email letter, and to Dr. Becker at Ascension Providence for changing the policy and personally passing on the update to me.

It is so encouraging realizing how possible it is to make a change. Sage: Inclusive Reproductive Network made this happen and I couldn't be more proud to be part of such a hardworking team.

Hello hello! A quick intro to me:

My name is Eryn Shaffer and I'm a birth doula here in Waco, Texas. I did my training through Carriage House Birth, and after two more births, will be officially certified!

My training has included: sensation management techniques for labor and birth, research-based natural induction methods, basic herbalism, trauma-informed care, anti-racism awareness and history of modern ob-gyn care, cesarean-birth care, and postpartum basic care.

I love: listening, empowering partners, affirmative words, comforting touch, Rebozo techniques, aromatherapy, massage and water. I appreciate a good sense of humor and a spirit of positivity. My biggest goal is to eliminate the fear surrounding childbirth and equip birthing people with confidence, autonomy and joy.
