Joyce Lucas McCall

Joyce (Lucas) McCall, 87, passed away peacefully in her home in McGregor, Texas on 28 January 2026.

A memorial service will be held on 2 May 2026 at Oakcrest Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m.

Born on May 2, 1938, the second of five children to Loyd B. Lucas and Anna Belle (Tennison) Lucas. She was her mother’s helper and her ‘daddy’s little girl’. She held a life-long beaming pride of his early career as a Waco Motorcycle Policeman. She graduated Waco High in 1956. Early childhood was spent with close friend Bobby Samet (Wachtel), who she remained in contact with until Bobby’s passing in 2022. She was a child at a time when children could wander and be safe, and she valued that independence.

Starting from the age of twelve, she earned her own money by babysitting. This started her down a path of self-sufficiency and independence as a teenager, by holding after school and summer jobs at Waco Recreation Dept., Woolswoth Five & Dime, and the Waco Theater. In high school, she chose her career as a secretary (administrative assistant). After graduation she briefly left Waco for a job in Amarillo using her skills as a secretary. She returned to Waco to work in the offices of several automotive dealerships before landing her permanent job at First Presbyterian Church in 1962. She retired as office manager from the church in 2003.

She married her husband, Robert Clark McCall in 1964. Always focused on her family’s future, she talked Bob into leaving his sales job at Hargis Co. in 1968 and joining the U.S. Post office as a letter carrier, where he remained until his retirement in 1997.

Joyce was very tidy, systematic, and highly organized, all of which seems to have vanished in subsequent generations. She was close to a perfectionist, but fortunately, could sacrifice that trait when the situation required. She liked routine, planning, and was a constant worrier, traits that did pass down. She loved her Saturdays, blasting the stereo at near full volume as she cleaned while Bob was at work. Her son’s Kiss and Led Zeppelin records could sometimes be found on her stereo, though no one knows how they got there.

Hiding things from her husband became an art-form. Coupled with good bookkeeping skills, and expert knowledge of how to finesse her ideas, would have made for a good fit in organized crime, if not for her ethics and high morals.

Joyce enjoyed caring for (and protecting) her family, camping, and later, traveling, especially on cruise liners and casinos, and many trips with her baby sister, who has often described her as the best big sister anyone could have. She especially loved her Alaskan cruise, a trip to Hawaii, and frequent trips to casinos at Elko, though she was not loose with her money. Later in life, she enjoyed weekly dominoes with her best friends Luci, Cathy, and sister-in-law Dede.

Her friendships were strong, as was her attachment to her pets. And everyone would agree that a Joyce “no” meant “no”.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Loyd and Anna Bell Lucas; husband, Robert McCall; sister-in-law, Dede Lucas; and brothers, Malton Lucas and James Lucas.

Joyce is survived by her son, Rick; grandson, Nathan; brother, Morris (Luke) Lucas; sister, Loy Lenamon; brother-in-law, Jerry Lenamon; beloved sister-in-law, Gloria Lucas (Malton’s widow); and her beloved cat, Tia.

Austin Anthony Buchs

Austin Anthony Buchs, 32, of Waco, Texas, began his eternal life in Heaven on April 1, 2026.

He was born on July 5, 1993 in Fort Worth, Texas, and was raised by his devoted parents, Colonel (Retired) Todd Anthony Buchs and Renee Pickett Buchs, alongside his younger sister, Alexie.

Growing up in a military family, Austin was blessed with the opportunity to experience different cultures, meet people from all walks of life, and create countless meaningful memories. These experiences helped shape his character and gave him a deep appreciation for connection, adventure, and community.

Soccer was a true passion of Austin’s throughout his younger years. While his father was stationed in Germany, Austin’s talent and dedication led him to be selected for the Olympic Development Program (ODP), where he had the incredible opportunity to train abroad. This experience fueled his drive for excellence and became a defining part of the man he would grow to become.

Austin had a natural ability to build strong, lasting relationships. That gift carried into his professional life, where he excelled in sales, business development, and entrepreneurship. He was also an active and dedicated member of the Waco non-profit community. He proudly served on boards including Shepherd’s Way, The Cove, Waco Housing Authority, and McLennan Community Investment Fund. While he will be remembered as a servant leader, it is his heart, kindness, determination, and the way he made others feel truly seen, heard, and valued that will leave the most lasting impact.

His career path ultimately led him to Waco, Texas where he met the love of his life, Genee Ordones Buchs. Surrounded by the sandstone rocks of Colorado, they were married on July 14, 2023. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, devotion, and endless joy. Their love for one another brought forth the greatest blessing of their lives, their beautiful baby girl, Eliana Genée Buchs, born on August 13, 2024.

Austin’s love for life knew no bounds, matched only by his immeasurable love for ‘his girls’ (Genee & Eliana). His life was a beautiful reflection of love, resilience, and purpose. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.

Austin’s memory and legacy are carried on by his loving wife, Genee Ordones Buchs; precious daughter, Eliana Genée Buchs; parents, Todd and Renee Buchs; sister, Alexie Buchs; grandmothers, Carol J. Conklin and Frances J. Pickett; parents-in-law, Manuel and Gilda Ordones; brother-in-law, Matthew Ordones; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Todd A. Buchs, II., and his grandfathers, Richard L. Buchs and CSM (Ret) Austin L. Pickett.

A Celebration of Life and visitation will be held from 5:30 - 8:00 pm on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at the Crestview Church of Christ in Waco, Texas. The Celebration of Life program will take place from 6:00 - 7:00 pm.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 13, 2026 starting at 1:00 pm at First Woodway Baptist Church in Woodway, Texas, with burial following at Oakwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial donations be made in honor of Austin A. Buchs to The Cove - Heart of Texas or Waco Family Medicine in Waco, Texas.

Louise I. Comer

“She Finished Well”

Louise went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 7, 2026. Louise Irwin Comer of Waco, Texas, passed away peacefully at St. Anthony’s Care Center where she had been a resident for over three years.

Louise was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico on December 16,1945 to the late Reverend Clint Louis Irwin, Sr. and the late Mary Viola Cole Irwin.

At an early age (probably six years old) she asked Jesus to be her Savior and Lord. Before she and her mother prayed, Louise told her mother, “I want to get this done right now.” She never looked back. From that day forward, she was always searching for ways to serve the Lord. As a young girl, she was in a church girls’ Bible study called GA’s (Girls Auxiliary). She completed the program with the highest achievement: Queen with a Scepter.

Louise was an excellent Bible teacher. She taught girls in a Bible class called Missionettes and later became coordinator for the entire organization at her local church in Berwick, LA. She also taught Sunday School and prepared food for shut-ins and delivered it. Louise regularly sent birthday cards to church members and was always sending cards of encouragement to friends. Louise was a faithful member of Highland Baptist Church since 2000. She wanted people to know her Lord Jesus.

Louise’s dream as a young girl was to become a nurse. Family finances could not provide much for her nursing education, but the Lord provided a scholarship and a work situation. She achieved her R.N. in Nursing, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern State College of Louisiana (the number one nursing school in Louisiana at that time).

Louise’s nursing career was a varied one over the years and was influenced by her role as a mother. Her work experiences included working as a doctor’s office nurse, surgery floor nurse, ICU nurse, and nursing home nurse. Louise taught nursing students for over two years at MCC. Her favorite nursing position was being an ultrasound nurse for Care Net Pregnancy Center! For her, this was ministry for Jesus. Louise’s favorite story from her Care Net days was that she helped a couple decide to keep the baby when the husband had been determined to abort.

Louise married James Comer in 1967, and they had 58 years of marriage. James was so blessed to marry the best person he ever knew. Louise was a faithful and devoted wife. Louise and James enjoyed each other’s company, dining out, and looking at and buying many antiques.

Louise and James were blessed to have two wonderful children: Benjamin Wesley Comer and Holly Elizabeth Comer Jahrmarkt. These two gave the Comers eight grandchildren. Louise loved being a grandmother. She doted on each one, and they loved her. They knew she was the best source of information about the weather and sports. Louise liked to do crafts, and when the grandchildren came, she taught them how to paint, color, and white on sidewalks with chalk. Louise always had snacks for them and had them make cookies with her. As the grandchildren grew, going to their sporting events and ballets became a great source of joy. All the “grands” loved going with Louise and James to Chuck E. Cheese, the zoo, and amusement parks.

Louise will be remembered for her unwavering faith, kindness, and dedication to her Lord and family, and the warmth she brought into the lives of those who knew her. Her memory will live on in each of us, and her legacy will continue for generations to come. She finished well and she will dwell in the house of the Lord forever!

Louise is survived by her husband, James Charles Comer; her son, Benjamin Wesley Comer and his wife Michelle Brummer of Prairieville, LA; her daughter, Holly Elizabeth Comer Jahrmarkt and her husband Michael Lawrence Jahrmarkt of Waco; six grandsons, Wesley James Comer (Londyn) of Prairieville, LA, Cole David Jahrmarkt of Waco, TX, Samuel Joseph Jahrmarkt of Waco, TX, Nathan James Jahrmarkt of Waco, TX, Graham Michael Scott of Waco, TX, and Andrew Benjamin Comer of Prairieville, LA; two granddaughters, Abigayle Brittany Comer of Robert, LA, and Sarah Elizabeth Comer of Prairieville, LA.

She is also survived by her brother, Clint Louis Irwin, Jr. and his wife Kathi Martensen of New Orleans, LA; her niece, Mary Kathrine Irwin Noles and her husband Jeffery Noles of Oxford, MS; and three great nephews, Anders Noles, Arlo Noles, and Archie Noles of Oxford, MS. She also leaves behind one great granddaughter, Isadora Nora O’Quinn of Robert, LA.

Michael Sanford Hutson

Michael Sanford Hutson, age 70, was born March 24, 1956, in Longview, Texas, and went home to his Lord and Savior on March 29, 2026, in Austin, Texas.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Sanford Elmer Hutson, Jr. (“Jack”); his brother, Paul Forest Hutson; and his nephew, Stephen J. Singleton.

He is survived by his mother, Juanita Hill Hutson; his sister, Sandra Singleton; many nieces and nephews; his four children; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Michael lived a life centered on unwavering faith in God. To many, he may have first appeared as a stranger, but he rarely left a conversation without learning a person’s name. Guided by his deep faith, he prayed faithfully for the people he met and touched countless lives through kindness, encouragement, and genuine compassion. He lived as a modern-day disciple of Jesus, sharing love, prayer, and hope with everyone he encountered.

He was a faithful member of First Church of Pearland, where he deeply felt the presence of God during worship. He especially loved singing along to the hymns and cherished the many meaningful friendships he formed within his church family.

Michael loved his children and grandchildren deeply and found his greatest joy in being with them. He treasured time spent visiting with his family, sharing meals, laughter, stories, fishing trips, and simple everyday moments that became memories his family will carry with them always. Being together as a family meant everything to him, and the love he poured into those moments will remain a lasting part of his legacy.

Affectionately known by several nicknames depending on where he was, many called him “Big Mike,” while others knew him as “M&M” (“Muscle Mike”), names that reflected his strong presence, generous heart, and the bold way he lived life with passion and faith. To his grandchildren, he was lovingly known as “Papa Mike,” a name he carried with great pride and joy.

He loved running along the beaches of Galveston, where he found both peace and strength. He also enjoyed a good hot cup of coffee, and simple moments that reflected his appreciation for life’s everyday blessings and the quiet routines he cherished.

One of Michael’s proudest accomplishments, second only to his faith and family, was owning and operating his beloved West End Gym in Galveston, Texas, until his retirement. What began as a small neighborhood gym became a community where members grew into lifelong friends whom he considered family.

Michael’s precious and dearly loved children are Angelia Michelle Glasscock (David Glasscock), Michael Andrew Hutson (Oraphan Hutson), Candace Sharp (Kevin Sharp), and Amanda Kaye Matherne (Yancy Matherne); and his cherished grandchildren: Brett Taylor Glasscock, Eric David Glasscock, Alexis Starr Erickson (Junyor Erickson), Jason Hutson, Tristan Hutson, Tanner Allen Sharp, Mason Alexander Sharp, Tre Matherne (Maggie Matherne), Kayli Matherne Leach (Quinn Leach), and Jace Michael Matherne.

Michael was also blessed with six great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him tremendous pride and joy.

Michael will be remembered for his strong faith, warm heart, deep love for his family, and the lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on through the lives he strengthened, the prayers he offered, and the love he shared so freely.

Pallbearers: Brett Glasscock, Eric Glasscock, Michael Andrew Hutson, Jason Hutson, Tristan Hutson, and Tanner Sharp.

Honorary Pallbearers: Mason Sharp, Kevin Sharp, David Glasscock, and Yancy Matherne.
