Shortened version of my newsletter from March
Something about spring never gets old. Buds appear everywhere. The spiderwort in the garden seems to go from a clump of grassy leaves to full, brilliant blooms overnight.
I was recently visiting Minnesota, where just days after a blizzard, plantain is already pushing up through the ground, and buds are swelling on nearly every tree. The plants don't second-guess the timing. They just know.
Many traditions hold that what we need most often grows close by. I have been sitting with that lately, especially watching the spiderwort outside our back door here in Waco.
I made a flower essence from her and named it Resilience. Not the push-through, grit-your-teeth kind of resilience, but the quieter kind. The kind that trusts the season. There is a link in the comments with more about flower essences.
Spring has traditionally been a time of gentle nourishment and renewal. Those first vibrant weeds popping up weren't a nuisance to our ancestors; they were a gift. Nettles, cleavers, dandelion, chickweed. Plants that build up and replenish rather than strip down or deplete. What if we took that same approach with ourselves?
If this is resonating with you, I would love to have you join me on April 23rd here at Wild Thistle in Waco for Wild Weeds and Gentle Tonics for Springtime Vitality. We will explore the tradition of spring tonics, get to know a few of these incredible plants, and each create our own tonic to take home. It is a beautiful, hands-on evening and space is limited.
