Howdy, Ya’ll! It’s time to saddle up and lock in those sponsorships for the Carolina Children’s Charity Fun Run happening this weekend!

We’re strapping pedometers on our ponies this Saturday 9.27 in honor of the Carolina Children’s fun run to see how far they’ll go, and more importantly, how much our herd can raise for one of our biggest supporters. 🐎💙

Here’s a look at the 2023 totals:
Richman: 16.5 miles
Magic: 15 miles
Ember: 13.5 miles
Waffles: 12.6 miles
Liberty: 12 miles

We’ve also got some new hooves in the herd this year! Any guesses on how much Chip and Zara will bring in for the cause?

Now’s your chance to get involved!
You can sponsor a flat amount, pledge per mile, or really kick it up a notch and pledge per tenth of a mile. However you choose to give, every dollar goes directly toward helping children right here in the Lowcountry.

Carolina Children’s Charity plays a vital role in supporting local kids, and part of that is funding equine-assisted mental health sessions here at LEAP, services that would otherwise be out of reach for many families.

Access matters. Community matters. Let’s ride for a cause that counts.
Who can we count on you for?

Meet Zara and Chip in the videos attached. Zara’s all about those under-the-chin scratches, while Chip prefers grazing in the fields. Who do you think will rack up the most miles? 🐴💙

Memorial Day, and always, we remember.

At , we wish there wasn't a need for this measure of sacrifice, and we're humbled to be part of the reason that so many gave everything they had to give. We're holding space for those of you who are grieving and are remembering our own heroes, too.

“Never was so much owed by so many to so few.” —Winston Churchill

It's May, which means the campaign is here, and we’re honored to share a story that reflects the kind of healing we witness every day.

“Moving Through Grief” follows one woman’s journey through loss—and how a horse named Durk helped her begin to find connection and hope again. At our organization, we see just how powerful horses can be in moments like these.

When integrated into mental health programs, horses offer more than presence—they offer a path forward.

Your support helps us continue this work.

Would you like to spend a couple hours with a cute face like this? Calling all Horse/Animal Loving Volunteers to join our herd!

We have two ways you can help!

Barn/Herd Support - We have volunteer barn shifts to feed horses, clean/fill water troughs, muck stalls, etc. Horse/Livestock experience is helpful. Volunteer shifts are scheduled in the AM or PM and usually take about 2 to 2 1/2 hours to complete.

Facilites/Grounds- Spring is around the corner and we also have a need for occasional mowing and weedeating. Flexible scheduling as needed.

If interested or know someone who may be a great addition to our herd, please contact Patti Ruth at pruth@leapinsc.org, call 843-296-1544 or DM us.

Matt was a vibrant 16-year-old, full of life and excitement. To celebrate getting his driver’s license, he and his friends spent hours joyfully driving around, lost in their newfound freedom. But their adventure took a tragic turn when they drifted into oncoming traffic. The accident claimed the lives of all three of Matt’s friends and the other driver.

The weight of survivor’s guilt, PTSD, depression, and anxiety overwhelmed Matt, leading him to the brink of su***de. Despite his parents' efforts to help him through intensive talk therapy, Matt couldn't bring himself to discuss the accident, and his suicidal thoughts only deepened.

In desperation, Matt’s parents found the Equine Partnership Program, a mental health organization that incorporates horses into psychotherapy. When Matt arrived, he was among the most suicidal clients they had ever encountered.

Gradually, as Matt began working with his equine partner, Jubee, something within him started to shift. The true turning point came unexpectedly during a lunging session, where Matt was learning to guide Jubee using voice commands and body language. Suddenly, Jubee bolted, and Matt found himself being dragged across the arena, refusing to let go of the lunge line.

When Jubee finally stopped, Matt remained silent for a long time. When he spoke, his words were profound: “I guess I really need to learn how to let go.”

This was a pivotal moment in Matt’s healing journey. They signified the beginning of his emotional release.

Over the following months, Matt continued working with Jubee, forming a deep bond that allowed him to gradually let go of the guilt and pain that had consumed him.

As we mark the beginning of , join us in raising awareness and supporting those in need of mental health support.

Special thanks to Equine Partnership Program for sharing Matt’s incredible story.
