Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) is a common condition, affecting approximately one-third of all females and half of females aged 55 and older. It occurs when the pelvic muscles and tissues become weakened, stretched or injured, leading to the descent of pelvic organs such as the bladder, uterus or re**um into the vaginal space.

Asthma is not a one-size-fits-all diagnosis, as there are, in fact, several different types based on triggers and severity:
• Allergic Asthma: Triggered by allergens like pollen or dust mites. Treatment may include allergen avoidance and medication.
• Exercise-Induced Asthma (EIA): Symptoms worsen during physical activity. Treatment can include using a bronchodilator inhaler before exercise.
• Occupational Asthma: Caused by workplace irritants. Treatment involves avoiding triggers and using protective equipment.
• Non-Allergic Asthma: Triggered by infections, cold air or stress. Treatment focuses on controlling inflammation with medications.
• Severe Asthma: Characterized by frequent and severe symptoms. Treatment may include biological therapies and bronchial thermoplasty.

Binge drinking equates to fewer drinks than you may think. It is defined as consuming enough alcohol to reach a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher in a short period. For most adults, this typically equates to:
• 5 or more drinks for men
• 4 or more drinks for women
Binge drinking not only poses serious health risks but can also lead to accidents, injuries and alcohol-related problems.

Sustainability is an essential factor in our processes. John Swansinger has been with Summa Health since 1987 and is part of a team helping make our community more efficient and eco-friendlier. In 2023, we recycled 36.37 tons of electronic items, 46.12 tons of medical/furniture donations and 33.50 tons of co-mingled recycling reworks. In total, we were able to divert 885.19 tons, or 1,770,380 pounds, throughout 2023. Together, we're making a positive impact on our planet's health.

The Alzheimer’s Association estimates that 6.7 million Americans are living with dementia and this number is anticipated to continue to grow. Dementia disproportionately impacts women, with two-thirds of people with dementia being women, and more than 60 percent of Alzheimer's and dementia caregivers being women.

Summa Senior Services, in partnership with the Ohio Council for Cognitive Health, is providing Dementia Friends training to office staff of outpatient medical offices across Summa Health. This hour-long training is helping educate primary care and specialty medical offices regarding dementia, since many of these offices interact with people living with dementia and their families. Through these training sessions, we are creating Dementia Friends throughout the system.
