Please please research who you train with.
Many of you know I was training for CAPPA. I had talked about the fact that it took months for me to agree to even have a conversation with them and that the reason I was training was that they allowed faculty to make key decisions that allowed me to better serve my community. We couldn’t publicly price our classes under $550 but we were allowed to give discounts as we saw fit and could offer private classes at different rates. We couldn’t remove material but I was allowed to add value by including additional information. I always added to the equity inclusion because it wasn’t enough. I also added local info that would be helpful for new doulas trying to navigate the birth scene. I also offered to be available for new doulas to call or email for support until they were comfortable.
Now CAPPA has decided they don’t care about any of that. They also don’t care about the faculty or future students all they care about is competing with DONA. They want to be “just like DONA”. Well I think DONA is hellscape that only cares about money and is classist, racist, and not inclusive to trans and poly families. So this new goal isn’t in alignment with anything I believe in. They are now breaking up the instructors into different teirs and charging EVERYONE 900 for training. Of that 900 instructors get 450. We can’t cancel training so if you are hoping for a traveling instructor, they can’t cancel if you have even one sign up. That means they will be paying more than they make from teaching. CAPPA thinks this is really cute and are very proud of themselves. All they did was place a black women in charge so that when they did things they KNEW disproportionately hurt BIPOC communities they could avoid being called racist. Well I don’t care that they have one black face who is green lighting this trash. Racism and classism are trash no matter who is trying to get us to swallow it.
For those I trained I am sorry. If I had any idea this was their intention I would have never ever worked for them. If you want to continue ad maintain your certification that is understandable and doesn’t reflect on you. If you want to move in another direction good for you. The last faculty they treated like garbage and who left were unlawfully stripped of their certifications because CAPPA didn’t like what they had to say. I am sure they will do the same to me. So I will be trained but not certified, since I never wanted the cert I don’t care but mention it because no one should blindsided. If you speak out against them they will delete you from the system and revoke the certification you worked for. Classy to the end CAPPA.
I did just check while I can log in I am no longer listed as a doula or a trainer anywhere. Share far and wide if you want this type of nonsense just use DONA. They are who they are and have never pretended to be different.
