🌺 Maui Wildfire Remembrance — Honoring Our Community, Together 🌺

This week marks the two-year anniversary of the devastating wildfires that forever changed our Maui community. For many, this is a time of remembrance, reflection, and continued healing.

Each of us carries our own memories of that time; whether through personal loss, supporting others, or witnessing the incredible resilience of our community. We recognize that remembrance looks different for everyone. Some may participate in community-led gatherings, like the Lahaina paddle out, while others may reflect quietly with family.

At Hospice Maui, we will be holding space for reflection during our Morning Circle on Friday at 9:00 AM, with a collective moment of silence to honor:
Those we lost
Those who continue to grieve
The strength and unity of our Maui community

We invite you to join us in spirit, wherever you are, as we pause to remember and stand together in compassion and aloha.

Please join us in welcoming Brennen Makuakane-Jarrel, RN, to the Hospice Maui ʻohana!
Brennen brings a wealth of experience, compassion, and dedication to his new role. A proud graduate of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, his journey in healthcare began as an LPN at Hale Makua.
In addition to his clinical background, Brennen honorably served for 21 years in the U.S. Army Reserve Command, retiring as a Platoon Sergeant. We are truly honored to welcome a veteran who has devoted his life to service — both in healthcare and to our country.
We’re excited to have Brennen on board and look forward to the heart, strength, and commitment he brings to caring for our patients and their families. 💙

Hospice Maui is seeking donations of gently used medical equipment and unopened supplies for our Community Closet — a vital resource that provides support to local families in need.
We’re currently accepting:
🦽 Wheelchairs
🚶‍♀️ Walkers
🛁 Shower chairs/benches
🚽 Bedside commodes
🧤 Unopened adult briefs/diapers
🥤 Nutritional drinks (unopened)

Become a Hospice Maui Volunteer 💜
Are you looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community? Hospice Maui is inviting compassionate individuals to join our incredible team of volunteers through our annual training program this fall.
📅 Training Dates:
Oct. 16–18 & Oct. 23–25
This multi-day training prepares volunteers to provide meaningful support to patients and families during one of life’s most sacred times.
For over 40 years, volunteers have been the heart of Hospice Maui — offering companionship, comfort, and care. Many describe the experience as life-changing not only for the people they serve, but for themselves as well.
“We welcome volunteers from all walks of life, especially those who speak Hawaiian, Japanese, Ilocano, or Tagalog,” says Sara Sparling, Volunteer Coordinator. “Whether you can offer a few hours a week or more, your presence truly matters.”
