“I am so grateful to be alive and I give thanks to the excellent trauma team at Queen’s,” said Mike Morita. Mike was rushed to Queen’s by ambulance on Easter morning after a horrifying shark attack while surfing.

At Queen’s, Mike was wheeled down past the trauma team. “These people are all here for you,” the transporter told him. “It gave me comfort, it gave me strength,” Mike explained. “Seeing them all so confident, so compassionate, so prepared. I felt like I was not just another patient, but that I was a human being who mattered and that they would do their best by me.”

Mike admits he teared up a bit when he was discharged earlier this month, barely a week after his life-threatening shark encounter. He sends a huge mahalo to his entire team and to every caregiver.🌺

Thank you to Kamu Morita for the photo📷
