MRVAS and Waitsfield Fire Department Strengthen Emergency Communications with New Repeater System

The Mad River Valley Ambulance Service (MRVAS) and the Waitsfield Fire Department have significantly improved emergency communications with the installation of a new repeater system. This critical upgrade enhances radio coverage and reliability for first responders, ensuring faster and more effective emergency response throughout the Valley.

The new system is housed at the Geiger family’s barn, and both MRVAS and the Waitsfield Fire Department extend their sincere gratitude to the Geigers for their generosity in allowing this vital infrastructure to be placed on their property. In addition to MRVAS’ new system, the Waitsfield Fire Department’s existing repeater was relocated to this site, further strengthening emergency communication capabilities in the region.

MRVAS new repeater, which exceeded $30,000 in cost, would not have been possible without the support of Valley towns, local businesses, and generous individuals who recognize the importance of maintaining strong emergency communication systems.

A special thank you goes to MRVAS members Kevin Van Schaick, Andrew Spencer and Erik Reisner, whose dedication and hard work were instrumental in making this project a reality.

MRVAS deeply appreciates the ongoing support from the community and remains committed to providing high-quality emergency medical services to the Valley. For more information about MRVAS or to learn how you can support or volunteer, visit our website at www.mrvas.org.

Our dedicated volunteer rescue crew came together for an essential ice rescue training session. Braving the cold temperatures, these selfless individuals committed their time and energy to ensure our community's safety during the winter months.

We are incredibly proud of our volunteers and grateful for their time. Thank you, rescue crew, for your selfless service!

The Mad River Valley Ambulance Service had a record month, but not a record we had hoped to break. In the month of January, we responded to 81 emergencies! The 10-year average for the month of January had been 58 calls, and our previous record for number of calls in one month was 71.

MRVAS was able to respond to 80 of the 81 calls without requesting mutual aid, which is a testament to all of our dedicated 100% volunteer EMTs, Drivers, Dispatchers and Rescue personnel.

While we hope this trend does not continue, we need to do our best to be prepared. That's where you come in! We are always looking for more volunteers for all our disciplines. No previous experience required, just a desire to learn and help your community.

When you see flashing lights on the road, no matter the color, slow down and move over. Not only is it the right thing to do, it's also the law. Taking this simple action means that you're looking out for those who are always looking out for you.
