If winter driving suddenly feels overwhelming, it’s often not just the weather.

Snow reflects light.
LED headlights are bluer and harsher.
Darkness reduces contrast.

Add dry eye, early cataracts, or a small uncorrected astigmatism — and glare can feel blinding.

If you’re avoiding night driving, it may be time for an eye exam.

If you avoid driving at night, this post is for you.

You’re not being dramatic.
You’re not “just tired.”
And you’re definitely not alone.

Headlights really are harsher now — but if they feel overwhelming, your eyes may be asking for help. A small prescription change or treating dry eye can make a big difference.

If you notice:

-Halos around lights

-Difficulty driving at night

-Needing brighter light to read

-Increased glare compared to a few years ago

It’s worth a routine eye exam — especially to rule out early cataracts or dry eye.

Yep—counterintuitive but true. 👀💧

Think of it like an emergency sprinkler system going off instead of a steady, useful drip irrigation system.

When your eyes are dry or irritated, the surface of the eye sends a distress signal. In response, your tear glands release a flood of reflex tears. These tears are mostly water and lack the oils and mucus needed to actually lubricate and stabilize the tear film. So they spill over (hello, watery eyes) but don’t fix the dryness underneath.
