June is PTSD Awareness Month! 💬
This month, we're dedicated to sharing information about PTSD, starting with the basics. Did you know there's a difference between Chronic PTSD, Acute PTSD and CPTSD?
1️⃣ Chronic PTSD:
Chronic PTSD refers to long-term, persistent symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder that last for months or even years after the initial traumatic event. Symptoms can include flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance behaviors, and hypervigilance.
2️⃣ Acute PTSD:
Acute PTSD, on the other hand, is a short-term response to a traumatic event. Symptoms can be intense, but they typically last for a shorter period, often resolving within days or weeks.
3️⃣ Complex PTSD (CPTSD):
CPTSD is a subtype of PTSD that occurs when an individual experiences prolonged and repeated trauma, often at the hands of someone they trust. This can lead to complex symptoms, including emotional dysregulation, difficulty with relationships, and a loss of identity.
PTSD can happen to anyone:
A common misconception is that PTSD only affects military personnel. However, PTSD can affect anyone who has experienced a traumatic event, such as:
- Survivors of abuse or assault
- Victims of natural disasters or accidents
- Those who have experienced a traumatic loss
- Anyone who has witnessed or experienced trauma
