I once made a five-year plan. It had color coding, bullet points, and dare I say a splash of Excel excellency. It was a masterpiece of organized ambition, a vision board in spreadsheet form. Somewhere between “launch this new aspect of ministry” and “invest in coaching more people,” life chuckled, spilled coffee on my spreadsheet, and lit it on fire for good measure.
Enter Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
God’s version of a “straight path” is rarely a straight line. It zigs. It zags. Sometimes it spins in a circle and takes a scenic detour past “What in the world is going on?” Boulevard. Occasionally, it loops back like it left the oven on. And yet, somehow, He uses every twist, turn, and tumble to deepen our faith and every now and then, to give us a good laugh at how confidently we misunderstood our assignment.
So if today your “plan” looks more like abstract art than a roadmap, complete with scribbles, mystery coffee stains, and maybe a post-it note that just says “???”, take heart. God isn’t confused. He’s not scrambling. He’s writing a story that’s far better than the one you drafted in your color-coded planner. Lean in. Trust Him… and maybe keep a snack on hand… you never know how long the scenic route will be.
But God’s plans? Always right on time.
Even if they make zero sense until August 2025.
