A little to the Maple Syrup Festival! 🍁

Since the parade passed right by our building, everyone came outside to enjoy the fun and cheer on the floats. We also decorated our mini van, which proudly cruised through the parade route — and residents loved spotting it along the way! 🚐

Of course, there may have been a few sweet treats handed out too! 🍬

We had the best time celebrating National Skilled Nursing Care Week here at The Waters!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined in the fun and helped make it so special.

From a hippie day, to a zoo visit, a lively game of whack-a-mole hunt, and even a photo shoot -every moment was filled with laughter, smiles, and memories to cherish.

Here’s to our incredible team, residents, and community for making this past week unforgettable! ❤️

As we celebrate , we’re proud to honor the strength, resilience, and determination that each of you brings every single day. Inspired by the spirit of Rosie the Riveter, you show us what it truly means to rise to the challenge with courage, confidence, and heart.

Your unwavering dedication and compassion are the backbone of our healthcare community—the driving force behind healing, comfort, and hope. Day in and day out, you go above and beyond. Your grit, skill, and perseverance do not go unnoticed.

Like Rosie, you embody strength in action—proving that with resilience and teamwork, anything is possible. You are powerful, capable, and essential, and the impact you make reaches far beyond what words can express. 💪💙

At The Waters of Wakarusa, it’s just as important to us to create a fun place to work as it is a fun place to live! 🎉

Last week, our staff celebrated by taste-testing delicious meatballs with marinara and BBQ sauce — a flavorful way to bring everyone together! 🍝

We also got creative with a Friday the 13th challenge, inviting staff to write a 13-word poem. Our residents had the honor of choosing the winner, and congratulations to Amie, CNA, whose winning poem was:

“Shamrocks shimmer gently as laughter and luck wander through glistening bright streets tonight.” 🍀

Amie was awarded a lunch bag cooler filled with goodies — well deserved! We love finding fun and meaningful ways to engage both our staff and residents.

Last week, we proudly celebrated Long-Term Care Administrators Week, and we’d like to extend a big thank you to our incredible Administrator, David Henke! 💙

David was born at Elkhart General Hospital — the very same place where he later worked as a Registered Respiratory Therapist and Practitioner. He went on to earn his Master’s degree in Business Administration and Finance from Indiana Wesleyan University and served as a financial analyst at Healthwin Hospital, where he completed his training and licensure as a Health Facility Administrator in Indiana. He also holds a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator certification in the state of Michigan.

Throughout his career, David has dedicated himself to serving several nursing facilities across Indiana, building strong care teams and improving outcomes for residents. He joined The Waters of Wakarusa one year ago and shared that the small-town feel and genuine, heartfelt care shown by the team is what drew him here.

In addition to his work in healthcare, David has proudly served as an Elkhart City Councilman for the past 22 years.

David has been married for 38 years to his wife, Kim — an RN, MSN, MPH, CCRN, and Clinical Specialist at Elkhart General — where the two first met. Together, they have two children: Zachary, a public works engineer in Elkhart, and Alexandria, a lawyer for the New York Civil Court System. They also have one very spoiled grandchild, Kingston!

In their free time, David and Kim enjoy boating, traveling, and making a difference in their community. They reside in Elkhart, Indiana.

Thank you, David, for your leadership, dedication, and the positive impact you make every day! 💙

At The Waters of Wakarusa, we love creating special moments for our residents to connect and bond 💛

Whether it’s our ladies enjoying meaningful conversation and laughter together or our gentlemen gathering for their own time of camaraderie, these dedicated groups give everyone a space to share stories, build friendships, and simply enjoy one another’s company.

Providing opportunities that are thoughtfully catered to both our women and our men helps strengthen connections and makes our community feel even more like home.
