Functional medicine is gaining notice in lots of different places, but what is it? This graphic shows some of the differences.
Allopathic is what many know as traditional medicine. It has an important role. For example, if someone has a broken arm from falling out of a tree, the bone does need to be properly set, and addressing the symptom in that case is sufficient. There is no need to check the physical cause of the broken arm.
Functional medicine recognizes that the systems in the human body are all interconnected, so it is important to look at the entire body to have a full assessment of health.
Neither way of doing medicine is better or worse than the other. They just have different roles for addressing different health problems.
So, I'm curious....have you heard of functional medicine? Do you have any personal experience with it? Share your experience in a comment.
