Trying out a new trellis we built using recycled wood that was thrown out at a nearby construction site. After removing nails, and cleaning them up, its all we needed! This is all standard pine, and no pressure treated wood, so our garden won't be tainted by chemicals.

The takeaway being that you don't have to spend tons of money of raised beds, soil, etc to have a functionaland beautiful garden. You just have to be creative, and willing to sweat a bit! I recently planted some marigold in this garden, to hopefully help with some intense pest pressure I was initially having. It seems to be helping! We'll let you know!

We'll post updates as we see how this works for us! We're currently growing mostly Rattlesnake beans on this trellis...hopefully it will be covered soon!

Just sharing some peaceful garden pics...

Lemon verbena is stretching out and smelling great, as our marigolds are starting their duty protecting our garden from pests (plus they are pretty)...

Plant companion crops, such as marigolds, dill, oregano, thyme, and other herbs, etc, that can protect your garden from pests and disease, and also give you plenty of fresh herbs to pick (and enjoy as they grow). These plants can help create soil biodiversity, as well as attract good pests and repell the ones you don't want around.

You don't usually need chemicals to get pests and disease under control...let nature help!

Gotta love Spring! Lavender in full bloom...the buds are so fragrant!

This plant was propagated two years ago using a small snipping from another established plant!

With a little rooting powder, some potting soil (that drains well), a few weeks, and some patience, you can have Lavender everywhere!

Starting some Rattlesnake Pole Beans we got from High Mowing Organic Seeds. We had great success with them last year (pictured above), and excited to get them going again!

These have a unique purple spotting on them, and add some nice color to the plate!

Regarding the seeds, the germination rate has been 100% so far, and they are quite resilient to hot weather and droughts (we often neglected them last year). I will definitely purchase from them again!

It's garden season, baby!

We are begrudgingly resisting the urge to plant our tomatoes, etc (until early May), but there's still plenty that can be done now...

Today we are prepping some raised beds for our strawberries...using all scrap wood and recycled construction materials (soon to be covered with netting to protect from birds).

We added some fresh compost, for plant nutrition, and some fresh new straw so they can get their berry on!
