An appointment that measures your ear canal volume can be one of those “small steps” that make a huge difference in how hearing aids actually sound.

Let’s break it down: 👇

We start by reviewing your hearing test and your real-life goals (restaurants, TV, church, family gatherings).

Then I place a tiny probe microphone in your ear canal, and we play speech-like sounds to measure what your hearing aids are actually delivering inside your ear. 🦻 From there, I adjust the settings until they match evidence-based target levels, and we fine-tune based on what you notice.

The best part? The wins are often immediate:

✅ clearer speech without cranking volume
✅ less “sharp” or “off” sound
✅ more balanced hearing between ears
✅ more confidence that everything is set correctly

As an audiologist, I see this story all the time:

A patient comes in because their spouse gently nudged them to schedule (or scheduled the appointment for them 😉). They usually start with, “I hear fine, everyone mumbles,” and I can tell they feel skeptical.

Honestly, I get it, because I’ve been that person too. I didn’t WANT to schedule my own dentist appointment, but my spouse nudged me… and I was glad I listened.

We slow it down, discuss real-life moments such as TV volume and group conversation, and then review their hearing test results.

The best part? The “wins” are often small but powerful: TV is lower, and couples always report that there is less repeating needed, and they can tell their spouse is more confident in different listening environments.

If you’ve been on the fence, you’re not alone. When you’re ready, we’re here to help, without pressure!

“Does ear candling work?” 🕯️

We get this question all the time!

Despite popular claims, ear candling is both ineffective and unsafe. The waxy residue left behind comes from the candle, not your ear, and the hollow candle means hot wax can drip into the ear canal.

Ouch! 😬

For safe and effective ear wax removal, it’s always best to leave it to a trained professional. Your ears are too important to risk!! 👂

This Valentine’s Day, show your heart AND your hearing some love.

Your heart and ears are more connected than you think. The tiny sensory cells in your inner ear depend on strong blood flow to function properly, so when heart health declines, hearing can suffer too.

Studies show that cardiovascular conditions like high blood pressure may increase the risk of hearing loss. (Source: American Journal of Audiology)

Taking care of your heart isn't just about longevity; it’s also about staying connected to the world around you through better hearing. 👂 So, if you've noticed changes in your hearing or want to make sure everything's in working order, we're here to help! ❤️

🌱 Let’s be honest… change is HARD, especially when it comes to something as personal as your hearing.

I hear this all the time:
“I know I need help… I just don’t know if I’m ready.”
“It feels like such a big step.”
“What if everything sounds too loud?”

And you know what? Those feelings are completely normal.

Hearing help isn’t just about a device. It's a change in routine, in confidence, in daily life. And big changes take courage.

But here’s the part I love reminding my patients of:
✨ You don’t have to do it alone. We are here to help.
✨ You get to take it one small step at a time. We schedule follow-up visits.
✨ Your brain is AMAZING at adjusting…sometimes it just needs a little practice.

Sometimes the hardest step… is also the one that changes everything.

🌟If you’re ready (or even curious), please reach out to us. We’re here to help!

Let’s be honest, hearing aids are tiny tech powerhouses that live in a warm, humid, waxy environment all day. So yes… they need regular cleaning!

👂 Even a little bit of earwax or moisture can block the microphone or speaker, making your hearing aids seem like they "aren’t working right."

Here’s what we recommend:
🔹 Daily: Wipe them down with a soft, dry cloth
🔹 Weekly: Check for wax buildup, clean filters or domes if needed
🔹 Every 3–6 months: Come see us for a professional clean and check
🔹 Every 1-2 years: Schedule a full hearing aid tune-up and hearing test

Studies show that 80% of hearing aid repairs are due to moisture or earwax, both preventable with regular maintenance! (Source: American Academy of Audiology)

Need help with cleaning supplies or unsure how to clean yours safely? We’re happy to show you!

Ever feel totally wiped out after a long conversation, especially in a noisy place? 😴

You’re not imagining it.

When your brain works harder to make up for hearing loss, it can use up energy meant for other tasks, like memory or focus.

This idea is called Cognitive Load Theory, and it helps explain why untreated hearing loss can affect more than just your ears.

Research from Johns Hopkins found that people with hearing loss are up to 5 times more likely to develop dementia if they don’t treat it. (Source: Lin et al., 2011)

Does listening feel exhausting? It might be time for a hearing check.

“I saw hearing aids on the shelf at the pharmacy… is that an option for me?”

I get this question more than you’d think.

🦻In my clinical experience, many patients come into our clinic genuinely curious about over-the-counter (OTC) hearing devices…and for good reason. Increased access to hearing care is a positive step.

Here’s my expert take: OTC hearing aids are designed for adults over 18 with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. For some people, they can be an appropriate starting point.

That said, they aren’t always the best solution.

OTC devices are self-fitting, which means there’s a lot of guessing involved…
👂 Guessing about the type of hearing loss
💻 Guessing about the correct settings
🩺 Guessing whether something more medically treatable is being missed

And when we guess, hearing outcomes often fall short of what’s possible.

🔍 My role is to help you understand why you’re having difficulty hearing and guide you toward the solution that truly fits your ears, your lifestyle, and your goals, whether that includes OTC devices or something else.

If you’re wondering where to begin on your hearing journey, please contact us. We’re here to walk alongside you and help you make confident, informed decisions about your hearing. 👂
