What is Reiki?
Reiki is a type of energetic therapy. The word comes from the Japanese words “rei,” meaning universal, and “ki,” meaning life force energy.
According to practitioners, energy can become stagnate in places where there has been physical injury or even emotional pain and cause blockages. Given time, these energy blocks can cause issues or illness. Reiki can work directly with the chakra centers.
Energy medicine helps the flow of energy to remove blocks in a similar way that acupuncture and acupressure does. Reiki practitioners believe that improving the flow of energy around the body can:
• enable relaxation
• relieve pain
• speed healing
• reduce other symptoms of illness
People have practiced Reiki for about 2,500 years. Reiki is also referred to as palm healing or hands-on healing.
Reiki is not a religion; it is a healing system. Those who practice it may or may not be religious.
Practitioners typically give Reiki treatment in a peaceful, private setting. However, Reiki can take place anywhere. During a session, the client may lay on a table similar to a massage table. The practitioners will then place their hands lightly on areas of the client’s head, limbs, torso, legs, and feet. They will typically keep their hands in these positions for up to 3 minutes.
If there is a particular injury, the practitioner may hold their hands above the wound. While the practitioner holds their hands lightly on the body, an energy transfer takes place. During this time, the person may report that the practitioners hands feel warm or are tingling. They will hold each hand position until they sense that the energy has stopped flowing and move them to a different body area.
A treatment typically takes around 60 to 90 minutes. Some practitioners may use crystals to enhance energy flow. The number of sessions will vary, depending on what a client wishes to accomplish. Some clients prefer to have one session, while others have a series of sessions to work on particular issues.
Some techniques that Reiki uses have names such as:
• centering
• clearing
• scanning
• removing stagnant energies
• balancing
According to Reiki practitioners, Reiki channels universal energy known as ki, pronounced “chi.” This is the same energy involved in tai chi exercises. This energy permeates through the body.
Reiki can:
• aid relaxation
• assist in the body’s natural healing processes
• help with emotional, mental well-being
• induce deep relaxation
• help people cope with emotional stress
• improve overall well-being
Some people may include Reiki into their wellness plan for conditions such as:
• cancer
• heart disease
• anxiety
• depression
• chronic pain
• insomnia
• infertility
• neurodegenerative disorders
• fatigue
It is important to note, Reiki should never take the place of sounds medical treatments or advice.

Have you ever thought about the energy of your body? The chakras are our bodies energy system. They can help balance our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. They are not just some mysterious woowoo theories, its science. Our energy field has been scientifically studied and proven to exist and many hospitals regularly employ reiki practitioners now to assist in the healing and recovery of patients because they understand the relevancy of the energetics of the body and wellbeing.

So, let us dig in a little bit. What are the chakras?
The chakras are energy centers in the body; there are seven main ones that run along the spine from the base of the spin to the top of the head. They are like mini spinning vortex's of energy. Their energetic frequencies match the colors starting from the root going up of red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, indigo and purple, together they make up the spectrum of light.

Each chakra is associated with specific qualities and functions of the body, and they work together to maintain balance and harmony within the body. When the energy of the chakra gets off balance, either through emotional trauma, physical trauma or being around negativity, it can play havoc on our body, our mind, and our emotions. In some cases, that off balance energy can start to show physical signs of dis-ease. This is why it is so important to keep our energies balanced and optimized.

The first chakra is known as the root chakra, is located at the base of the spine. It represents stability, grounding, and our connection to the physical world. When this chakra is balanced, we feel secure, confident, and grounded. When this chakra is unbalanced, we can feel insecure, unconfident, ungrounded and fearful.

The second chakra is known as the sacral chakra or belly chakra, it is located in the lower abdomen, below the belly button. It is associated with creativity, passion, and our ability to experience pleasure. When this chakra is balanced, we feel inspired, creative, and emotionally connected. When this chakra is unbalanced, we can feel uninspired, uncreative, and emotionally disconnected.
The third chakra is known as the solar plexus chakra, its location is in the upper abdomen. It represents life force energy, personal power, confidence, and self-esteem. When this chakra is balanced, we feel empowered, motivated, and in control of our lives. When this chakra is unbalanced, we can feel disempowered, unmotivated, and not in control of our lives.

The fourth chakra is called the heart chakra; it is located in the center of the chest. It is associated with love, compassion, and emotional well-being. When this chakra is balanced, we feel loved, empathy, and a deep sense of connection with others. When this chakra is unbalanced, we feel unloved, anger, and disconnected from others.

The fifth chakra is called the throat chakra; it is in the throat area. It represents communication, self-expression, and the ability to speak our truth. When this chakra is balanced, we can express ourselves clearly and authentically. When this chakra is unbalanced, we can’t express ourselves clearly and authentically, we may not speak our truth or we may voice hurtful communication with others.

The sixth chakra is called the third eye chakra; it is located between the eyebrows. It is associated with intuition, insight, and spiritual awareness. When this chakra is balanced, we have a clear vision, heightened intuition, and a deep connection to our inner wisdom. When this chakra is balanced, we do not see clearly or have brain fog, low or no intuition, and a deep disconnection to our inner wisdom.

The seventh chakra is known as the crown chakra, its location is at the top of the head. It represents our spiritual connection, higher consciousness, and divine wisdom. When this chakra is balanced, we experience a sense of oneness, spiritual awakening, and a deep connection to the universe. When this chakra is unbalanced, we experience a sense of separation, spiritual stagnation, and a feeling of being lost.

Understanding and balancing the 7 chakras can have a profound impact on our overall well-being. By working with these energy centers, we can enhance our physical health, stability, and growth. Whether you are just beginning or have been working with the chakras, remember to approach it with an open mind, open heart, and a willingness to learn.

Grounding or (earthing) is connecting to the earth with your bare skin and has therapeutic benefits. It is said that free electrons are transferred from the earth to the human body and back when grounding and that this pulls negative energy from the body while resupplying the body with positive energy.

Grounding can have physical benefits, including but not limited to pain reduction, improved immunity, and reduction in inflammation.
Traditional grounding methods include: Walking barefoot on grass or soil, gardening in soil, laying or sitting on the earth with bare skin or sitting in a natural body of water, such as a pond, river, lake, or in the ocean.

Some recommend doing the grounding for 10 to 15 minutes a day, while others say that you can do this once a week.
It is believed that grounding leads to physical effects and possible health benefits such as improved sleep, heightened immune function, reduced inflammation, improved mood, less pain and soreness. Whether or not this is scientifically proven, the effects of feeling better after putting your feet in the grass or playing like a kid in the mud is undeniable.

Have you been told that your chakras are blocked or that you have a blocked chakra?

Blocked chakras are energy centers in the body that can become stagnant, unbalanced, have emotional energy clogging them up or any number of energetic issues, potentially leading to physical, emotional, and mental challenges. These issues can be addressed through clearing them, through the use of Reiki. Symptoms can vary depending on the blocked chakra and the issue blocking it, common issues include feelings of being stuck, lack of confidence, emotions coming up out of nowhere and communication difficulties.

Some symptoms of blocked chakras

Symptoms depend on which chakra is blocked, and this is by no means a complete list:

• Root Chakra: Feeling ungrounded, sluggish, or unsettled.
• Sacral Chakra: Creative blockages, a lack of inspiration.
• Solar Plexus Chakra: Stomach cramps, digestive issues, and low confidence.
• Heart Chakra: Emotional withdrawal, feeling distant, or experiencing grief.
• Throat Chakra: Difficulty speaking your truth, fear of judgment, sadness, or physical symptoms like a sore throat or neck stiffness.
• Third Eye Chakra: Confusion, mental fog, or headaches.
• Crown Chakra: Feeling depressed, disconnected, or feeling lost.

Remember always, if you are having physical issues, it is a good idea to first get it checked by a healthcare professional, then seek alternative holistic services to assist in healing.

Letting go of something is one of lifes greatest challenges. Wether it’s an emotion, a trauma, a habit, a person or a belief is a challenge, we think we are losing a part of ourselves, but in fact, when we release something, we make room for something better, that void is a potential, a potential to be filled with something new, something joyful, something loving and that is what can be the scary part, it is the fear of the unknown, of what might come to replace what we have let go of, what will become of it. Let go of what is no longer serving and see what the universe has to offer. For that is the great mystery of life.
