➡️ Emergency planning often leaves out disabled parents. We're sharing this opportunity to join this important conversation on making preparedness inclusive for all families.

People with disabilities are often left out from conversations about emergency preparedness, including parents with disabilities who need to keep themselves and their children safe during a disaster.

Join us for an important discussion with Shari Myers and Melissa Marshall of The Partnership for Inclusive Disaster Strategies, along with Judy Brown and Morénike Giwa-Onaiwu, Advisory Board members of the National Research Center for Parents with Disabilities, on emergency preparedness for disabled parents and their families.

🚨 URGENT: Protect Disability Services – The Fight Isn’t Over! 🚨
The “One Big Beautiful Bill” just passed the Senate and now heads to the House. It includes deep cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and essential supports people with disabilities rely on every day.
💥 These cuts threaten independence, health, and basic dignity. We must speak out—even if your Representative is already voting NO.
Here's what you can do:
✅ Thank your Rep for standing up for the disability community.
🗣️ Ask them to speak out publicly—in statements, social media, or the press.
📢 Help educate others. Share this post. Talk to friends in other districts.
🌍 Reach out beyond your zip code—your voice can shift the national conversation.
Every action matters. Our lives and rights are not negotiable.

Last week, our Wakefield Day Program held their third Racial Equity and Diversity training session in partnership with Triangle, Inc. — and the focus was on microaggressions. These are subtle but harmful comments or actions that can have a big impact.
Participants bravely shared their thoughts on how to respond when they hear something hurtful, with ideas like:
➡️ “I can say, That language is not okay.”
➡️ “I can say, That hurts my feelings.”
➡️ “I can walk away or tell someone I trust.”
Together, we also talked about how words matter, and how assumptions based on disability are never acceptable.
🗣️ As one participant put it:
“Just because I have a disability doesn’t mean I’m not smart.”
“Just because I learn differently doesn’t mean I can’t learn.”
These powerful conversations help create a stronger, more inclusive community — and we’re proud to be learning and growing together. 💙
