Seven years ago, Empower started as a small side hustle tucked inside a gym with . I had a big vision for what physical therapy could look like — more empowering and truly focused on helping people get back to what they love.

Not long after opening, the gym closed during the global pandemic. Like so many small businesses at the time, the future felt uncertain. But what started as a tiny side hustle kept growing.

Today Empower has two locations, four team members, and over 6,000 visits helping people move better and feel stronger.

Along the way there have been a lot of life moments too. Eleanor has been asking for belly rubs through it all 🐾 — and somewhere in the middle of building this business, I also became a mom.

I’m incredibly grateful to every client who trusted us, every person who supported this vision, and the amazing team and community that make Empower what it is today.

Seven years in, and we’re just getting started! 🎉

Yesterday I teamed up with the amazing Nancy Jurczak of to discuss women’s health, hormones, and training for longevity at the Women in Business Luncheon. When you actually understand the body, you can better take care of it. We were honored to help women leave our talk feeling more informed and empowered to thrive during their peri- and post-menopausal years! 🩺👩‍⚕️🏋🏼‍♀️💪

We’re so excited to introduce you to the newest member of the Empower team! Say hello to Matt, an experienced Physical Therapist who’s bringing some serious expertise and heart to our community.

Matt’s story into PT is one we love. As a baseball player and wrestler who dealt with his own sports injuries, he started strength training at age 16, leading to a huge realization: training wasn’t just about getting stronger or performing better. It was about staying healthy and actually being able to do the things he loved without constantly getting sidelined, setting him on the path to help others do the same.

He earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy from American International College and his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from , but what really sets Matt apart is how he shows up for his clients. He takes time to truly understand each person’s story, their goals, and what matters most to them. Then he uses progressive loading and intentional exercise programming to guide them through rehab that actually builds confidence and resilience for the long haul.

Matt’s currently deep in his Sports & Orthopedic Manual Therapy Fellowship through the Institute for Athlete Regeneration and is also working toward his Provider Certification. He’s also certified in Sports & Orthopedic Manual Therapy (CSOMT) and continues to invest in education that helps him serve you better.

Lots of new followers lately so wanted to come on and say hey! I’m Dr. Haley - Physical Therapist, Strength Coach, and owner of Empower Physical Therapy and Performance. In 2019, I founded Empower with the goal of creating a space where clients who were ready to invest in their health could thrive.

With a beautiful new flagship facility in Wakefield, and a satellite clinic within the amazing community of in Somerville, Empower is committed to doing physical therapy differently, helping clients to take their rehab journey to the next level to meet their lifestyle, performance, and athletic goals.

It’s been a bit since our last TESTIMONIAL TUESDAY! And Allison’s gives us all the feels.

Allison had been discharged from traditional PT and sought out our performance program to get to the next level and build confidence with lifting. But as a former athlete and physical therapist herself, she knew she wanted to work with a team of professionals who truly understood what she’d been through.

We’ve been humbled to help Allison get stronger, but also feel more empowered and confident both in the gym and in her day to day life.
