This is our 13th annual Walk-A-Mile rally which is put on by Anti-Stigma Committee of the Gogebic Community Mental Health Authority in Wakefield, MI in collaboration with the Range Su***de Prevention Council of Gogebic County. The event was held at the Wakefield VFW on beautiful Sunday Lake. We had a phenomenal turnout of over 240 people this year!!!

The purpose of this event is help raise awareness of Mental Health issues and to reduce Stigmas people face when seeking or receiving Mental Health Treatment. We had students from Wakefield-Marenisco School District’s Student Council and National Honor Society volunteer to help at the event. We also had several classes of students from the Bessemer School District attend to show their support as well.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has recently released a Request for Proposals (RFP) to bid out the management of the state’s public mental health system. Advocates, persons served, public offi cials, and other stakeholders have underscored that this bid out addresses none of the real gaps in the system (funding and workforce shortages) while hurting access to quality care for Michiganders in need of mental health care and decimating the public system (the Community Mental Health system) that has served them for the past six decades.

Direct Care Staff – Afternoon Shift (2-10pm)

Community Mental Health has full-time opportunities in our residential program. Candidates will provide direct care to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and/or mental illness. No experience necessary as we train all of our staff. Starting wage is $20.16 per hour with defined increases, defined work schedule and a tremendous full-time benefit package to include:

On August 4, 2025, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announced the release of a Request for Proposals (RFP) to competitively bid the state’s public mental health managed care system. Proposals are due by September 29, 2025. This approach brings with it several risks without addressing real gaps in the system.
