Sharing a little personal info in the hopes it will help another person who is also struggling.
On Monday, I had a meniscectomy on my left knee. The initial incident was in August, swelling and pain and unable to walk on it. A cortisone shot helped for 3 months and then in Nov. it came back with a vengeance. Up until November I was still exercising, walking, riding Peloton, weight workouts, working, etc. Living my life. When it came back it hurt, a lot. Walks, bike, weights, all went bye bye.
I'm on my feet all day at work, bending lifting, etc. After work I was junk and couldn't do much of anything. After Dr. visits, MRI, diagnosing again, we booked the procedure for Monday January 27th.
4 days after surgery and I'm so looking forward to getting back to myself.
However, I have lost muscle and strength, flexibility and mobility. Extremely frustrating. I want my physical body to be where it was pre-injury. But, in order to get there, I have to start "here". Doing piddly little leg raises, heel slides and other seemingly "easy" movements, but crucial in starting my recovery.
Being home recovering for a few days, of course my mind was going back and forth between the "this is great, I can finally recover, I'm SO looking forward to getting back to myself" and the "this is so discouraging, I've lost so much, starting from here is the pits, it's going to take so long, etc".
I get it, I understand the frustration of wanting to be where you "were", or even wanting to be where you have never been able to get to. It's hard, it's work, it's time, it's slow, it's exasperating. But, no one can do the work but you.
We all experience pitfalls, speed bumps and detours. That's life. I have never had one client, at any age, that hadn't experienced a pain, an injury, or a situation that made it difficult to move forward, stay on track, and reach or come very close to their goals.
Every step you take toward your goal is helping. Whether it is a mental shift to focus on the positive, or physically taking the steps to exercise, do PT, stretch etc. it all moves you forward.
Most importantly, don't give up - if you find yourself falling down the spiral of negative self-talk, flip the narrative, find a motivating podcast or book, or maybe a quote - happy music, get outside, do whatever you can to pull yourself back up to move forward a little bit more, each day. Every bit counts-and with that, I leave you with a quote...
“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” – Thomas A. Edison

Keep it simple!
After the social bonanza that took place from Thanksgiving to New Years, I am very excited to get back to my regular schedule at work, with exercise, and with my nutrition. Now, I don't always color coordinate my meals, lol, but just showing an example of a simple, tasty, nutritious lunch. 1 egg w/3 servings egg whites, spinach and one Tbsp. of feta for the omelet, 1 clementine, 1/2 gluten free english muffin, & orange Mandarin Spark.
It was tasty, had lean protein, and a serving of fruit and veg. A little fat w/the feta and butter on the English.
It doesn't have to be complicated, especially if you don't love to cook or do not have a lot of time to prepare something.
I'm satisfied, it was tasty, and not too much prep or clean up so YAY WINNING!
If you don't know where to start, start simple :)
xoxo Michele

Our Story

Having been in the fitness industry for 15+ years, I really thought I’ve seen it all. Until now. COVID19 has not only shaken up our world and created a new one, it has changed the very essence of the fitness industry. Group classes, bonding with your trainer, support from your gym buddies, enjoying your final Savasana in yoga with your yogi friends, all gone in a p**f. Gyms once full of life and energy shut down, some opening but with much caution to ensure their members do not get sick. People fearful of going into fitness facilities in fear of catching the virus. Facilities closing for good because financially they cannot make it through with little to no revenue.

Through this all there are bright spots - group instructors quickly learning how to Zoom, Instagram and Facebook Live their classes. So wonderful to see the familiar faces on our tablets and screens, hear their voices, see our friends watching too. Families walking, biking and hiking together. Lots of home gyms hurriedly put together. People figuring out how to connect again, but safely.

While we have no idea how this will play out over the next few months, seasons, years, what I do know is that we will all find our way. Change can be good, even if it is not our choice. I hope this page helps you connect, find some humor, and realize that yes, you can still do this, it might be a challenge at first to find your way, but the path is there, you just need to look for it.
